The Calf House is a beautiful single storey barn conversion located on the 140 acre Holt Farm Estate, which is situate within the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire downs Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty and just 2.5 hours from London.

Great care has been taken during the restoration and conversion of The Calf House, and the end result is just stunning. The open plan space of the lounge/kitchen/dining room area is enormous, and the whole barn has been furnished to the highest of standards. It features modern touches, such as lutron lighting and is wired for sound with a Denon audio system.

Explore the 140 acre Holt Farm Estate where you will find its own woodlands, lake, duck pond and green fields.

You can also rent Holt Farmhouse to increase the sleeping accommodation by another 10 or the adjoining The Old Barn to increase it by another 8. Just 2.5 hours from London. You can see view the Holt Farm Estate here.

Just wanted to say that we had a lovely break at the Calf House and your service was excellent! Peter was extremely helpful and the call halfway through the week was a great touch. The property itself was lovely and extremely well appointed; just what we were after for a break with the inlaws. Thank you very much and we hope to be booking a house in Cornwall next year.

The Calf House is a simply stunning large single storey barn conversion located on the 140 acre Holt Farm Estate and is next door to the equally stunning ‘The Old Barn‘ (which is rented separately and sleeps eight). One of  the main features of this stunning barn is the very large kitchen/dining/lounge area with multiple doors opening onto an external paved area.

The Calf House also enjoys fast broadband supplied via satellite as rural broadband is too slow!

Entrance Hall

Upon entering the property, you are met with a good sized hallway with a small seating area.

Cloakroom

Just off the hallway is a cloakroom that has a W.C., sink and a tall storage unit.

Kitchen/Dining/Lounge Area

It really doesn’t get much better than this to have such a large, stylish area that easily accomodates six people in a superbly finished property.

Kitchen Area

The kitchen is a mix of gloss white and gloss black contemporary units topped with composite stone worktops. There are all the appliances that you woul expect, including a wide single oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher and an integrated fridge and freezer. The breakfast bar seats two very easily but it’s the feeling of space that makes this whole room work exceptionally well.

Dining Area

The dining table accomodates six people and, on warm nights, you can open the side door onto the external paved area.

Lounge Area

This area of the property is a real treat and has been very well thought through. The main seating area by the wall hung HD television works very well and other entertainment equipment includes a PS3 which doubles as a Blu-Ray and DVD player.

On the other side of the room is another seating area which is ideal for reading and generally relaxing, as well as an office desk for those who need to catch up on work.

Utility

Just off the kitchen is a fully fitted utility room which also houses an integrated washing machine and integrated tumble dryer.

Bedroom One – with en-suite shower room

This is a large bedroom that has been elegantly furnished using a mix of contemporary furniture and antique, retro style pieces. The room boasts a 6ft wide bed, bedside cabinets, dressing table, stool, drawer units and a large laquer black wardrobe. The en-suite is beautifully fitted with high quality white sanitary ware including a twin ceramic sink, wall mounted base bathroom cabinet, large mirrored cabinet, walk-in shower, heated towel rail and a W.C.

Bedroom Two

This is also a large room that has two 3ft beds that can be zipped together to make a kingsize bed. It has been beautifully finished with chrome bedside tables, antique retro dressing table & stool, drawer units and a tented wardrobe.

Bedroom Three

Another large bedroom with angled ceiling and plenty of space, bedroom three also benefits from two 3ft beds which can be zipped together to make a kingsize bed; bedside tables, dressing table, drawer unit, tented wardrobe and shelf storage

Main Bathroom

This bathroom services bedrooms two and three and again, it is finished to exceptionally high standards. With built in bath, large walk-in shower and a feature wall mounted bathroom cupboard topped off with a large ceramic sink. There is also a large mirror above the sink and a heated towel rail.

Garden

To the rear of the property there is a lovely sized enclosed garden and a great patio area to sit and look up across the fields. The great thing about the patio area is that the three sets of doors from the kitchen/dining/lounge area all open out onto it. A gas barbeque is also avaliable in the warmer months.

Vegetable Garden

To the rear of the property there is a gated entrance into the vegetable garden. You are most welcome to pick whatever you want to cook whilst staying at this property.

Note: To the rear of the vegetable garden, there is an obvious area that is rented to a local farmer and is part of the working farm. There are hazards here so no-one must access this area or explore the few farm buildings and surrounding areas.

The Holt Farm Estate is made up of 140 acres of fields of lovely Somerset countryside and also includes a lake and its own woodlands. This is a working farm, but you are welcome to walk along the estate where marked. Children must be accompanied and dogs must be on a leash.

Games Room

The separate games room is a great space for children and adults to enjoy a game on the football table, table tennis or pool.

Duck Pond

Just below Holt Farmhouse there is a fenced in duck pond with its own resident ducks.

Lake

If you venture up across the fields then you will come across a lake that regularly is populated by quite a number of ducks. This area is fenced in but you are welcome to take a picnic and sit in this extremelly peaceful area. Sometimes you may also see some of the fish that live in the lake.

Woodlands

Take a stroll up the track and take the marked paths through the woodlands. There are all sorts of trees, animals and flowers in the woodlands, and sometimes some of the wild deer will graze here. We will ask you to be careful at some times of the year not to disturb nesting birds.

Fields

Feel free to enjoy the space and freemdom of our fields and walk up to the Old Bothy which the owners will probably refurbish in the future.

Note: If you have adventurous children then they must keep away from the farm buildings to the rear of The Old Barn and The Calf House. As this is a working farm, there is farm machinery, slurry pits and other hazards associated with farms. There is also a stream running through the bottom of the valley which can get very fast after rainfall so we recomend that children are always supervised.

There are many great things to do for everyone, right on the doorstep of The Calf House. Our inclusive concierge team and holiday planners will be able to help you book anything that you want to do during your perfect stay.

  • Cheddar Gorge

    At almost 400ft deep and 3 miles long, Cheddar Gorge is an incredible sight to see. Explore the caves, climb to the top of the lookout tower, and wander around the quaint little shops. For a high adrenaline approach to the gorge try rock climbing, adventure caving or cave abseiling.

  • Dining Out

    Great restaurants in the area include The Archangel in Frome and At The Chapel in Bruton. Both offer a stylish, contemporary dining experience and source fresh local produce. The Spread Eagle Inn at Stourhead is a great pub less than 10 minutes from Holt Farm. There is also The Bath Arms at Longleat.

  • For the Kids

    As well as Longleat and the 140 acres of countryside at The Calf House to explore, there is also Wookey Hole just a 40min drive away that is packed full of activities for kids, as well as an indoor pool at Frome Leisure Centre for rainy days. Ask our concierge team for more ideas.

  • Glastonbury

    With the legendary Glastonbury Festival on your doorstep, it would be rude not to go and see what all the fuss is about! The world-renowned festival, featuring hundreds of music acts, circus performers, the extraordinary Shangri-La and so much more, is an amazing experience.

  • Glastonbury Tor

    Both Glastonbury Abbey and Glastonbury Tor are both steeped in amazing history and legends. Take a walk up to the top of the Tor and enjoy amazing views over the Somerset Levels, Dorest, Wiltshire and Wales, or take a stroll around the ruins of the Abbey set within 36 acres of peaceful grounds.

    The Calf House is central to some of the best spa’s in the area making it the perfect place to recharge and revitalise. Babington House is the original home of the exclusive Cowshed spa.Close by there is also the Charlton House Spa, Holbrook House and the Therma Bath Spa in the historical city centre of Bath.

    Visit the historical Roman baths in the city centre of Bath and witness the only hot springs in Britain and the ancient temples and bath complex the Romans built around them.

Concierge Services

We provide an inclusive concierge service to all our guests staying at any of our luxury holiday homes. Just think of all that time that we can save you making dinner reservations, organising a chef, booking the kids in for surf lessons, or we can just be a resource for the lowdown on everything local!

There is no additional charge for this telephone concierge service and we do not mark up any services that we procure for you. It's our most highly rated and talked about service and if you want us to help organise anything for your stay, just call us for more information.

Additional Housekeeping

We can offer a whole range of additional housekeeper services to suit you and your individual requirements. If you are looking for daily or regular housekeeping during your stay, or perhaps more frequent linen and towel changes, then this can normally be provided by our housekeeping partners.

There will be a local service charge to pay to the housekeeping company although our concierge team can organise this for you. n.b. Some housekeeping companies do not always work on Sundays and have a minimum service time.

Babysitting

Babysitting or childcare can be a very important part of a stay, particularly if you want to go to perhaps a great fine dining restaurant or maybe spend the day on non child friendly activities.

We have access to a number of childcare professionals or local babysitters that are close to all our properties. n.b. Due to insurance reasons, we only pass on names and numbers and leave you to make the final decision on who to employ.

Dog Sitting

If you are taking the treasured family pet on holiday with you to one of our dog friendly properties and if you go somewhere that does not permit dogs, we can provide someone who can keep your dog company!

In addition to sitting with them, they can sometimes also take them out for a few extra walks as well as make a fuss of them until your return. For more details, talk to our concierge team.

Fresh Flowers

If you are looking to have a range of flowers either delivered in advance or during your stay then this can be arranged. From bouquets for special occasions to hand tied flowers in every room, we can organise this with our local service partners.

Grocery Shopping

To save all the bother and important car space, we can normally arrange for your groceries to be delivered and packed away in the fridge, freezer and cupboards before your arrival.* This is a great way to start your stay and avoids the big shop on arrival and all that un-necessary time!

There is normally a small local service charge for this service although it always works best if we use one of our local grocery shop partners. *National supermarket deliveries normally need to be delivered after your arrival unless agreed in advance with our local services company.

Life, Fork and Spoon

A fantastic range of gourmet foods and ready meals created by celebrity chef James Martin. The food is excellent as you would expect and only high quality ingredients are used. There is an excellent selection so there is something for every palate!

These meals are ideal for holidays as they are delivered frozen and you just cook them when you need them without all the hours of shopping and preparation. This convenient approach means that you spend more time being ‘on holiday’ rather than slaving away over a hot stove in the kitchen!

Massage and Beauty

If you would like to visit a spa during your stay we can recommend the best local spa to visit and book treatments for you. If you would like a massage, facial or manicure in the privacy of a Perfect Stays holiday home, then we can get the masseuse/therapist to come to you. Our trained and professional service partners bring everything that is required to help you unwind and de-stress.

The therapists can normally offer a variation of different massages, a range of facial treatments, manicures and pedicures. Call our concierge team for more details.

Private Chef Service

Would you like a professional chef to come and cook during your stay for a one-off special occasion? Maybe for a few nights, or even the whole week? Does the thought of having a delicious gourmet experience during your stay where the menu is designed to your exacting requirements strongly appeal?

We work with a small number of highly experienced chefs that can provide food to the very highest standards and in addition to preparing and serving gastronomic delights, they also clean and wash up afterwards! This is our most popular in-house service, we recommend booking early to prevent any disappointment.

Restaurant Reservations

Our concierge team can recommend the best restaurants in the area to help you get the most out of your stay and we’ll even take care of all of the reservations for you too.

Let us know where you would like to go and we can take all of the hassle out of organising your group and make those all important bookings on your behalf. We have great connections with all of the local restaurants so where possible we will make sure you get the best table and that all your needs are catered for.

The Wine Merchant

To save space in the car, allow us to stock the wine fridge up for your arrival. We work with a small number of local wine merchants who will deliver to your Perfect Stays holiday home or work with our local services company to get the deliveries to you.

As well as being a space and time saving service, it can also give you greater access to locally made wines and spirits which you may not have come across before.

Transport

If you decide to fly or get the train to your holiday home destination we can help to organise car hire for your stay to help you explore the local area. Just wanted to say that we had a lovely break at the Calf House and your service was excellent! Peter was extremely helpful and the call halfway through the week was a great touch. The property itself was lovely and extremely well appointed; just what we were after for a break with the inlaws. Thank you very much and we hope to be booking a house in Cornwall next year.

The whole family had a fantastic week at the Calf House, the property and location were superb. The weather on occasion could have been better, having said that the property was a fantastic spacious place in which we could all unwind. The children enjoyed both the inside and outside space. My wife and I felt that the quality and facilities in general were superb. We took the opportunity to look at the Barn and Farmhouse during our stay, again both superb properties. We looked at Christmas availability, but alas all was booked for  2014. We would certainly consider staying again and have recommended the proprieties to friends. The ‘caretaker’ Peter and his brother were extremely welcoming, informative and helpful. The only slight downside was that the wi-fi signal was not strong enough, which was good for me as I couldn’t do too much work … I actually read two books! The children however could not download things on their iPads, which they found frustrating. All in all though a fantastic time!

I booked Calf House for the February half term holiday. I was more than delighted. The location is beautiful. The kids loved playing in the huge garden and checking up on the week old lambs nearby! The kitchen is so well kitted out and the whole place has a homely yet contemporary interior. Beautiful walks and amazing places to visit nearby. We will certainly be booking again.

We had a truly wonderful Jubilee weekend at The Calf House and The Old Barn – a great excuse for a big family reunion to celebrate my Dads 65th Birthday as well. An incredible time was had by all including the Royal Bath Show and a trip to Longleat, as well as holding our own Olympic games in the grounds and Come Dine With Me dinners in the evening.

The quality of linen and towels and beds and baths were fantastic – and the kitchens were kitted out wonderfully too and the under floor heating worked a treat. An incredible barn conversion – you really have thought of everything – we can’t wait to return! Thank you

We had a wonderful time at the Calf House, I felt very relaxed and at home and didn’t want to leave.  I don’t think there is anything I would change it was so comfortable. The other problem was the weather but what can you expect going on holiday in October, sometimes it’s good and sometimes it doesn’t stop raining! Walking around the fields was a little difficult in the gloopy mud but we did and had a chat with the ducks.

Peter was very pleasant and very proudly showed us around the Farmhouse and the Old Barn too as they were empty.  All three places are gorgeous and would be ideal for a large gathering, which we like to do occasionally. I like the idea of having the kitchen garden there for guests to use, we didn’t as we didn’t do a lot of cooking.The best food by far we found was at Matt’s Kitchen in Bruton.  By coincidence we had bought ‘Delicious’ magazine while away, read an article about Matt in there and realised we were just 6 miles away so luckily managed to get a table on the Thursday night.  We also loved the bread and pizzas at The Chapel in Bruton. We loved the whole area it felt very real with lots of proper working farms and cows crossing the roads at milking time.  It is close to the Wiltshire and Dorset borders and not that far from Bath and Bristol so a good area to be staying in. We hope to return sometime.
