The Beach - Just down the path!
Polzeath beach is one of the best surfing beaches in the UK. It also has a reputation of being one of the safest surf beaches and it is one of the jewels in the North Cornwall surf crown. The beach is sandy, long and flat and is very popular in the summer. The RNLI patrol the beach in the summer season and there is an array of watersports offered by a number of operators at the top of the beach. If you dont have the wetsuits or equipment for surfing or if you want to give it a go, you can either hire it all from the beach operators or buy it from the surf shops. If the beach is a bit busy, just pop around to Baby's bay which is a cove to the right hand side of the beach.
In addition to bodyboarding and surfing, you can also sign up for Coasteering or Paddleboarding. The beach has a dog ban from Easter Sunday to the 30th September so guests with dogs use the neighbouring beach of Daymer Bay which is dog friendly all year.
Shops, Restaurants & Bars
Although the shopping area in Polzeath is small, it is well served by a number of surf shops, fish 'n' chip shop, Spar, two cafes, several takeaways (ice creams, pasties, coffee, panini's etc), gift shop, clothes shop and a gallery. If you are looking for evening dining opportunities then why not visit the Waterfront in Polzeath and enjoy a beer on the sea facing deck or go inside for a great meal. There is also a quality Indian restaurant (that also does takeaways) on the side of the beach with stunning sea views or pop up the hill and visit the Oystercatcher pub.
Walking
Polzeath is on the coastal path network so you can walk across the beach and pick up the path around to Daymer Bay and Rock or walk out to Pentire head and around to the spectacular Rumps and Lundy bay. You could also walk to Port Isaac and back!

Just a note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at The Cove last week. We have been staying at various properties in Polzeath for the past 20 years and this was one of the best stays. We particularly liked the welcome pack...my husband made it his challenge to work his way through the scones and cream! The other thing which really made a difference was the mattress in the master bedroom....being able to get a good night’s sleep made it a proper holiday! We will definitely recommend you to our friends and rebook in the future.
The Hood Family, Somerset – October 2012
We had a fantastic week at The Cove. It's a truly wonderful house in a great position in Polzeath. We were amazed by how quiet and secluded it felt given the very close proximity to the beach. Due to the variable weather we experienced wet, sunshine and heat during one week! It didn't seem to matter as the house is so well designed. For surfers the outside shower is just perfect. For the cooler evenings the log burning stove is lovely and so easy to use. There is plenty of shade for hot days. My teenage children thought the annex bedroom was very special - this was a massive plus! We didn't use the car all week. We walked to Pentire head and around the coast to Rock. All walks do-able by a 7 year old upwards. We found the quality of food and service from Trebetherick stores excellent. We will certainly want to return!
