We get the lowdown on Hawksfield, an inspiring new hub for eating, shopping and art, located on the Atlantic Highway between Wadebridge and Newquay.
From fabulous food, speciality coffee and lovingly sourced independent shopping, Hawksfield just oozes inspiration, creativity and the passion of people who love what they do.
If you’re driving up or down the coast for a surf, for work or day tripping, we’d definitely recommend stopping off on the way out, or the way home, for independent shopping, art, original vintage, good food and great events.
It’s definitely become a bit of a hotspot so we chatted to John and Lucy, part of the Hawksfield Team, to find out more about why this hub on the Atlantic Highway is creating such a buzz…
A family and friends affair
“The team is a great group of people who are friends and family,” says Lucy Thorman, who runs The Paddock Venue, and manages the very funky looking website. “They really love what they do.”
Focusing on quality and creativity
“It’s a creative hub,” adds John Eldridge, owner of café Strong Adolfos. “A place to visit, meet or work and either get inspiration for your own environment or take away something for your home. We’re a growing community of businesses focusing on quality and creativity.”
Globally inspired food and speciality coffee
“All Stong Adolfos’ menu food is created by our head chef Katie, taking inspiration from around the globe,” says John. “She is a wonderful chef with great ideas and our menu reflects this and changes on a daily basis. Our cakes are baked by co-owner Mathilda Friström Eldridge and have a unique Scandinavian feel to them. She brings her own magical twist to the cake board, she’s certainly doing something special as customers keep coming back for more. We focus on quality and freshness at a reasonable price.”
The Goose Shed sells original vintage furniture and is already gaining a reputation for the fantastic vintage movie poster collection; Jo & Co Home is a brand new interiors store with a wide variety of eclectic home interiors and furnishings. With brands sourced from all over the world, the concept of the store, says owner Joanna Eldridge, is: “simple and contemporary but with a natural and rustic feel”; Circle Contemporary Gallery is a stunning art gallery showing a number of exhibitions throughout the year, along with creative workshops running with John O’Carroll in his open studio located on the second floor. The Arc Specialty Food Store is the newest addition to the site, a much-needed artisan food store selling products from across the Atlantic coastline with a nod to Italy, Sweden and Sardinia.
Anything for kids?
“We are very kid…(and dog) friendly,” says Lucy. “Strong Adolfos has a great menu for the kids.”
