Recommendations for Marazion

Marazion is famous for St Michael’s Mount. This iconic tidal island is draped in history and attracts visitors in their hundreds of thousands each year. Standing on top of the mount is the medieval castle, which looks out over the bay and has been used as the setting for numerous films and TV shows. At low tide, you can access the island on foot from Marazion Beach via a pebbled causeway. High tide completely severs the mount from the mainland, but you can still get across by hopping aboard a ferry. The island is also home to a church, an exotic garden, an ancient harbour, shops and cafés.

Nestled in the heart of Mount’s Bay, Marazion Beach is a hotspot for swimming, surfing and getting active both in and on the sea. There are hire facilities on the beach for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards (SUP), and you’ll see plenty of sailing and rowing boats making the most of the scenic waters during warmer months.

Marazion Beach operates a seasonal dog ban throughout July and August but is dog-friendly outside of these two summer months. St Michael’s Mount also has a seasonal dog ban from April to September. You don’t have to travel far to find a dog-friendly beach though. Long Rock Beach is a half-hour walk along the coastal path, which is a joy in itself, and welcomes canine companions all year round. This sandy stretch also enjoys views of the mount and surrounding bay.

For the best views, head to the window seats and outdoor space at The Godolphin. Sitting above the beach directly in front of St Michael’s Mount, this stylish restaurant and bar serves a contemporary menu and has a dedicated selection for children too. Marazion has several traditional Cornish pubs perfect for soaking up the sun with a pint of local beer. The Fire Engine Inn enjoys enviable views of the Mount, while the King’s Arms and Cutty Sark are found in the centre of the town, and both offer good atmosphere and food.

Located in the neighbouring village of Perranuthnoe, the Victoria Inn is one of Cornwall’s oldest inns and serves some of the finest food in the area. The pub and restaurant, which catches the eye with its pink exterior, also boasts a suntrap garden and is dog friendly.
