Nestled in the headland, just steps from the pristine beach, Southway occupies an exceptional vantage point with unending sea views and effortless access down to the sand.

From April 2017 onward, Southway will benefit from a striking interior upgrade and the addition of a hot tub, strategically placed to absorb the outstanding views. Updated images will be available following completion.

Panoramic views stretch from the popular surfing beach of Bantham all the way round to Bigbury, with the iconic Burgh Island stoically parting the sea.

After long days of exploring the South Devon coast paths, or reclining on the beach, returning to this sumptuous abode is a welcoming home-from-home. Inside, guests can enjoy a newly-renovated kitchen and dining room, and a spacious lounge, made all-the-more cosy by the inviting wood fire.

The importance of space for a property of this size has not been overlooked at Southway; as well as the spacious lounge, guests will find refuge in the TV room, complete with TV and multi-functional games table comprised of table tennis, air hockey and pool.

Balmy summer’s eves are made for lounging outside on the patio – drink in hand – while the BBQ smoulders and the last of the beachgoers depart, leaving just you, the lapping of waves on the sand and the silhouette of Burgh Island.

The newly-renovated open plan kitchen and dining room is a fantastic communal space boasting unending sea views. The open kitchen with breakfast island is excellently equipped with two double Neff ovens, an American-style Samsung fridge freezer and Nespresso.

Fold back the bi-fold doors and take in that paradisal view while around the dinner table.

Lounge

Gathering around the roaring wood burner and sinking deeply into the plump sofas is the perfect remedy after a long day walking along the Avon Estuary or ambling to the top of Burgh Island. A vast window seat invites that spectacular view in once more, and is the perfect spot to enjoy a good book and watch the sun pass across the sky. From this room, a set of double patio doors opens out onto the sea view terrace.

 

On rainy days, guests will appreciate the Smart TV, Blu Ray player and Sonos wireless music system for streaming music straight from your Smart device.

TV Room

The TV room is a great space for spreading out, particularly when in a large group. A Smart TV with Blu Ray player, PlayStation 4 and multi-function games table – comprised of air hockey, table tennis and pool table – provide hours of fun; the perfect way to kill time on a rainy afternoon.

This room also doubles up as a bedroom with a handy double sofa bed to enable the property to sleep up to 12.

Utility

The utility room is located just off the kitchen and is equipped with a Hotpoint washing machine, tumble dryer and additional fridge freezer for extra storage to save multiple trips out to the supermarket.

Southway’s king size Master Bedroom looks directly out across the sea via a Juliette balcony. Take in the salty air and admire the views spanning from Bantham and trailing up the coastline.

Bedroom Two is another sunny sea-facing room which treats its occupants to the majestic coastal scenes from the king size bed. Complete with Juliette balcony, there is little compromise on the master bedroom. While all other bedrooms benefit from an en-suite, this room effectively has use of the family bathroom.

In a large house, versatility is key; Bedroom Four offers the flexibility of a twin or super king whilst also benefiting from a contemporary rainfall shower en-suite.

  • Beaches

    The prestigious Blue Flag beach of Bigbury on Sea sits on Overcombe’s doorstep with the infamous Burgh Island separating the sea, creating two oceans to choose from. Other beautiful sandy beaches in the area include Bantham, overlooked by the property, Thurlestone, the pretty Hope Cove and South Milton.

  • Coastal Walks

    There are a number of beautiful walks in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Follow the coast path along the Avon Estuary towards Aveton Gifford, where you can cross a foot bridge and make your way back down towards Bantham.

    When the tide is out, you can enjoy an unusual walk across Bigbury, beach where the seas part, and scale Burgh Island where you’ll discover the ruins of an old chapel.

  • Dartmoor

    Dartmoor National Park covers an area of 368 square miles and hosts a wealth of activities throughout this rugged and spectacular terrain. From mountain biking and hiking to the top of tors, to discovering historic ruins and English heritage sites. This is the largest expanse of wild open country in southern England and is definitely worth exploring, even if just to enjoy a picnic amongst the wild ponies sat besides trickling streams.

  • For the Foodies

    Take a step back in time with the famous art deco Burgh Island Hotel, hosting black ties dinners every evening and regularly hosting murder mystery nights and balls.

    The highly acclaimed Oyster Shack is a must if you’re a lover of fresh seafood prepared exceptionally – just a 10 minute drive away. Add to the list the highly acclaimed Treby Arms in Plympton, with exquisite dishes prepared by Master Chef winner Anton Piotrowski. A little further afield, but absolutely worth the excursion, is The Seahorse in Dartmouth – one of the top restaurants in the county and owned by Mitch Tonks.

  • For The Kids

    When the kids have tired from endless days on the beach and the sea tractor, there’s plenty of family days out nearby. With Dartmoor Zoo, Woodlands Adventure Park and the River Dart Country Park – complete with zip wires, assault courses, tree houses and water sports – all within a 25 – 40 minute drive. Another fantastic day out is Totnes Rare Breeds Farm which aims to preserve endangered species of farm animals and the diversity of British Wildlife. The Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary is lovely family day out, you can learn about their tropical butterflies or their native British otters! Why not also visit the teacup pigs at Pennywell Farm? Just half an hour away.

  • Golf

    There are some beautiful golf courses in the nearby area with jaw-dropping views and immaculate courses.

    Bigbury Golf Club – 1 minute drive or 15 minute walk
    Thurlstone Golf Club – 20 minute drive
    The Dartmouth Golf Club – 30 minute drive

  • Local Pubs

    The Pilchard Inn, which can be seen from the property, is an ancient pub serving fresh, local food. Sat on Burgh Island, this is reachable on foot when the tide is out, or by catching the sea tractor when the tide is in. Other great pubs in the area include The Pickwick Inn, the fantastic Dolphin Inn in the picturesque village of Kingsbridge and the 13th Century Journey’s End – serving up a hearty carvery on Sundays.

  • Pamper

    Indulge in ultimate relaxation and really unwind while on holiday. The nearby Salcombe Harbour Spa, set in the tranquil coastal town, provides a truly peaceful day retreat using their own signature products alongside the sumptuous ESPA range. The Thurlstone Hotel & The Dartmouth also provide excellent spa treatments and tempting packages.

  • Plymouth

    Plymouth is just a leisurely drive away and has lots to offer. Visit the historic Barbican for dinner along the harbour or a boat trip, take in the famous Plymouth Hoe with Smeaton’s Tower, enjoy a spot of shopping, visit the National Marine Aquarium, catch the latest films at VUE cinema or see a show at the Theatre Royal.

  • Surfing

    There are some great surf spots along the South Devon coast. Right on your doorstep of course is Bigbury, strong swimmers will also enjoy Bantham, a great surf spot – particularly in the rivermouth. Nearby Challabrough, Mothercombe and Thurlstone also pick up some decent swell.

  • Watersports

    There are an abundance of watersports to be enjoyed in the local area, from wind surfing, sea kayaking, water skiing and wakeboarding to canoeing along one of South Devon’s picturesque rivers. Boat charters and fishing trips are a great way to take in the coastal scenery from the sea and explore the open water and natural wildlife.

We provide an inclusive concierge service to all our guests staying at any of our luxury holiday homes. Just think of all that time that we can save you making dinner reservations, organising a chef, booking the kids in for surf lessons, or we can just be a resource for the lowdown on everything local!

There is no additional charge for this telephone concierge service and we do not mark up any services that we procure for you. It's our most highly rated and talked about service and if you want us to help organise anything for your stay, just call us for more information.

Additional Housekeeping

We can offer a whole range of additional housekeeper services to suit you and your individual requirements. If you are looking for daily or regular housekeeping during your stay, or perhaps more frequent linen and towel changes, then this can normally be provided by our housekeeping partners.

There will be a local service charge to pay to the housekeeping company although our concierge team can organise this for you. n.b. Some housekeeping companies do not always work on Sundays and have a minimum service time.

Babysitting

Babysitting or childcare can be a very important part of a stay, particularly if you want to go to perhaps a great fine dining restaurant or maybe spend the day on non child friendly activities.

We have access to a number of childcare professionals or local babysitters that are close to all our properties. n.b. Due to insurance reasons, we only pass on names and numbers and leave you to make the final decision on who to employ.

Bike Hire

If you don’t want to bring your bikes with you on your stay, we can hire them for you and have them delivered to the house. If you just want to turn up at one location and cycle to another then our cycle hire partner can also deliver and collect them from any location in Cornwall.

There are a whole range of different bikes and accessories that can be hired including bike child seats! All bikes also come with helmets, locks, puncture repair kits, pumps and spare inner tubes.

Board and Kayak Hire

If you need to hire surf boards, paddle boards or kayaks for the duration or part of your stay, then we can organise this for you.
We can source surfboards suitable for all abilities, such as foam boards for beginners. Kayaks are a great way of exploring the incredible coastline and waterways near your holiday home.

The general requirement is that you must be able to swim before you can hire any equipment. We strongly recommend that you always obtain professional lessons before ever taking to the water which we can also organise for you.

Boat Trips

Whether its a private boat charter to enjoy a relaxing afternoon exploring the coastline, a day out at sea to catch some big fish for your tea, or a high speed ride on a rib searching for wildlife, we can arrange it for you!

Private group trips are available and trips range from 2 hours to full days. Ask our concierge team for more details.

Chef Prepared Dinners

Chef Prepared Dinners is a very flexible bespoke food service. The way that it works is that you discuss what food you would like with one of our partner chefs, they prepare it and then deliver it to you on the agreed day, together with cooking instruction!

All you have to do is turn on the cooker for items that need cooking, follow a few simple instructions and then hey presto, a gourmet banquet is on the table! As well as gourmet food, you can also order simple homemade dishes as well. Limited availability so always book early.

Dog Sitting

If you are taking the treasured family pet on holiday with you to one of our dog friendly properties and if you go somewhere that does not permit dogs, we can provide someone who can keep your dog company!

In addition to sitting with them, they can sometimes also take them out for a few extra walks as well as make a fuss of them until your return. For more details, talk to our concierge team.

Fresh Flowers

If you are looking to have a range of flowers either delivered in advance or during your stay then this can be arranged. From bouquets for special occasions to hand tied flowers in every room, we can organise this with our local service partners.

Flowers generally make people happy and the gift of flowers can brighten up anyone’s day. Call our concierge team for more details.

Grocery Shopping

To save all the bother and important car space, we can normally arrange for your groceries to be delivered and packed away in the fridge, freezer and cupboards before your arrival.* This is a great way to start your stay and avoids the big shop on arrival and all that un-necessary time!

There is normally a small local service charge for this service although it always works best if we use one of our local grocery shop partners. *National supermarket deliveries normally need to be delivered after your arrival unless agreed in advance with our local services company.

Massage and Beauty

If you would like to visit a spa during your stay we can recommend the best local spa to visit and book treatments for you. If you would like a massage, facial or manicure in the privacy of a Perfect Stays holiday home, then we can get the masseuse/therapist to come to you. Our trained and professional service partners bring everything that is required to help you unwind and de-stress.

The therapists can normally offer a variation of different massages, a range of facial treatments, manicures and pedicures. Call our concierge team for more details.

We work with a small number of highly experienced chefs that can provide food to the very highest standards and in addition to preparing and serving gastronomic delights, they also clean and wash up afterwards! This is our most popular in-house service, we recommend booking early to prevent any disappointment.

Our concierge team can recommend the best restaurants in the area to help you get the most out of your stay and we’ll even take care of all of the reservations for you too.

Let us know where you would like to go and we can take all of the hassle out of organising your group and make those all important bookings on your behalf. We have great connections with all of the local restaurants so where possible we will make sure you get the best table and that all your needs are catered for.

Surf Lessons

When in Cornwall, it’s difficult to resist the temptation get into the water and try surfing so we can recommend the best local surf schools and private surf coach’s to help you get the most out of surf lessons during your stay.

Whether you would like one on one surf coaching, enjoy lessons as a private group or join in with groups at a surf school, we can help find the right fit for you. Just contact our concierge team for more details.

The Wine Merchant

To save space in the car, allow us to stock the wine fridge up for your arrival. We work with a small number of local wine merchants who will deliver to your Perfect Stays holiday home or work with our local services company to get the deliveries to you.

As well as being a space and time saving service, it can also give you greater access to locally made wines and spirits which you may not have come across before.

Transport

If you decide to fly or get the train to your holiday home destination we can help to organise car hire for your stay to help you explore the local area. We can also book taxis for transfers to and from the airport/train station, as well as booking taxis to get you to and from your dinner reservations or for any other reason you may require one.

Our concierge team are on hand from the point of booking right up to the end of your stay so please do contact us if you would like any help at all.

Watersports

Our concierge team can advise on all local watersport activities available such as stand up paddleboarding, jet skis, kayaking, coasteering, waterskiing, wakeboarding, ringos, sailing, powerboat courses and much more.

We can book lessons for you and liaise with individual watersport companies to help ensure the service is tailored to your ability and experience.

What a fabulous house in a fabulous location. We were so lucky with the weather as well, on our first morning we sat out on the patio and had breakfast in our jim-jams looking at the beautiful view – which isn’t bad for November 5th.

The house is really well stocked, and well equipped with everything you need.

We go away as a group of friends every year and have been for 14 years and I think this is the best house we’ve stayed in, the only thing it lacked was a hot tub – which we normally insist on having – but it made up for that in other ways!

If you do not want to stay in Bigbury for the whole of your stay then a car is a must as its a fair drive to other places. Definitely recommend Perfect Stays if this is a good representation of the properties.
