The Calf House is a simply stunning large single storey barn conversion located on the 140 acre Holt Farm Estate and is next door to the equally stunning ‘The Old Barn‘ (which is rented separately and sleeps eight). One of the main features of this stunning barn is the very large kitchen/dining/lounge area with multiple doors opening onto an external paved area.
The Calf House also enjoys fast broadband supplied via satellite as rural broadband is too slow!
Upon entering the property, you are met with a good sized hallway with a small seating area.
Just off the hallway is a cloakroom that has a W.C., sink and a tall storage unit.
It really doesn’t get much better than this to have such a large, stylish area that easily accomodates six people in a superbly finished property.
The kitchen is a mix of gloss white and gloss black contemporary units topped with composite stone worktops. There are all the appliances that you woul expect, including a wide single oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher and an integrated fridge and freezer. The breakfast bar seats two very easily but it’s the feeling of space that makes this whole room work exceptionally well.
The dining table accomodates six people and, on warm nights, you can open the side door onto the external paved area.
This area of the property is a real treat and has been very well thought through. The main seating area by the wall hung HD television works very well and other entertainment equipment includes a PS3 which doubles as a Blu-Ray and DVD player.
On the other side of the room is another seating area which is ideal for reading and generally relaxing, as well as an office desk for those who need to catch up on work.
Just off the kitchen is a fully fitted utility room which also houses an integrated washing machine and integrated tumble dryer.
Bedroom One – with en-suite shower room
This is a large bedroom that has been elegantly furnished using a mix of contemporary furniture and antique, retro style pieces. The room boasts a 6ft wide bed, bedside cabinets, dressing table, stool, drawer units and a large laquer black wardrobe. The en-suite is beautifully fitted with high quality white sanitary ware including a twin ceramic sink, wall mounted base bathroom cabinet, large mirrored cabinet, walk-in shower, heated towel rail and a W.C.
This is also a large room that has two 3ft beds that can be zipped together to make a kingsize bed. It has been beautifully finished with chrome bedside tables, antique retro dressing table & stool, drawer units and a tented wardrobe.
Another large bedroom with angled ceiling and plenty of space, bedroom three also benefits from two 3ft beds which can be zipped together to make a kingsize bed; bedside tables, dressing table, drawer unit, tented wardrobe and shelf storage
This bathroom services bedrooms two and three and again, it is finished to exceptionally high standards. With built in bath, large walk-in shower and a feature wall mounted bathroom cupboard topped off with a large ceramic sink. There is also a large mirror above the sink and a heated towel rail.
To the rear of the property there is a lovely sized enclosed garden and a great patio area to sit and look up across the fields. The great thing about the patio area is that the three sets of doors from the kitchen/dining/lounge area all open out onto it. A gas barbeque is also avaliable in the warmer months.
To the rear of the property there is a gated entrance into the vegetable garden. You are most welcome to pick whatever you want to cook whilst staying at this property.
Note: To the rear of the vegetable garden, there is an obvious area that is rented to a local farmer and is part of the working farm. There are hazards here so no-one must access this area or explore the few farm buildings and surrounding areas.
The Holt Farm Estate is made up of 140 acres of fields of lovely Somerset countryside and also includes a lake and its own woodlands. This is a working farm, but you are welcome to walk along the estate where marked. Children must be accompanied and dogs must be on a leash.
The separate games room is a great space for children and adults to enjoy a game on the football table, table tennis or pool.
Just below Holt Farmhouse there is a fenced in duck pond with its own resident ducks.
If you venture up across the fields then you will come across a lake that regularly is populated by quite a number of ducks. This area is fenced in but you are welcome to take a picnic and sit in this extremelly peaceful area. Sometimes you may also see some of the fish that live in the lake.
Take a stroll up the track and take the marked paths through the woodlands. There are all sorts of trees, animals and flowers in the woodlands, and sometimes some of the wild deer will graze here. We will ask you to be careful at some times of the year not to disturb nesting birds.
Feel free to enjoy the space and freemdom of our fields and walk up to the Old Bothy which the owners will probably refurbish in the future.
Note: If you have adventurous children then they must keep away from the farm buildings to the rear of The Old Barn and The Calf House. As this is a working farm, there is farm machinery, slurry pits and other hazards associated with farms. There is also a stream running through the bottom of the valley which can get very fast after rainfall so we recomend that children are always supervised.
