A blend of reclaimed timbers, exceptional stonework and earthen materials, turn to The Baobab for an enchanting escape. Inspired by Sri Lanka, Morocco and the Mediterranean, it’s a place where faraway lands meet the hidden Cornish coast and endless estuarine views.

Designed by Sadie Snelson Architects to sleep 12 to 14, enjoy social space in abundance thanks to two expansive floors and split-level reception rooms. The ground floor takes advantage of its elevated position, where at high tide, a blue expanse of the Camel Estuary is revealed through floor-to-ceiling glass. The dual-aspect kitchen has a commanding wood-clad island, an inglenook log burner and direct access to the estuary-facing deck. Just beyond the walk-in larder and built-in bar, find the dining area finished in exposed woods and parquet flooring. It’s complete with a dining table to seat every guest, and a window seat for after-dinner drinks.

When comfort is calling, retreat to the estuary-view living area with its open fire, 4K projector and 110" home cinema screen, or head to the snug for a moment’s calm. The house has hints of the wabi-sabi aesthetic dotted throughout - a subtle yet intentional nod to finding beauty in the aged and rustic.

The Baobab has six bedrooms, each with far-reaching estuarine views and exquisite bohemian touches. Split between the ground and first floor, you’ll find three super king rooms and three zip and links that promise versatile sleeping arrangements. Popular with younger guests, there are two additional bunks in bedroom five, which reveals the private annexe. A self-contained hideaway that’s ideal for couples or older guests, open the cabin door and tiptoe down the stairs to unearth the final bedroom with its king size bed and vintage copper bath tub. You'll find an open plan kitchen and living space, a bathroom, plus a private garden and parking for two cars.

Sitting in its own terraced landscape, swimming lengths in the heated pool becomes part of the everyday. With decked balconies edging the front aspect of the house, it’s easy to come and go with cocktails on summer evenings while dinner sizzles on the charcoal barbeque. The Baobab enjoys a blissfully private setting, surrounded by ancient woodland and rolling fields, so catching the sunset surrounded by your nearest and dearest is an event to be truly savoured.

With direct access onto the Saint’s Way and Camel Trail, reach your mooring within moments or discover a myriad of spectacular walks nearby. Those holidaying with dogs will find beautiful beaches at Hawker’s Cove, Rock and Daymer Bay, and wildlife-watchers shouldn’t miss the chance to spot dolphins and seals on a boat cruise with Wavehunters.

Open Plan Kitchen and Dining Area

Modern in architecture but bohemian at heart, this space is designed for large get-togethers. With reclaimed Kentucky barn oak cupboards that are adorned with slate countertops, the kitchen is home to its fair share of well-crafted fixtures. You'll find a timber beamed ceiling, hand-hewn lime plaster walls and a commanding stone-topped kitchen island complete with a pair of bar stools. Featuring far-reaching estuary views, draw open the triple slide doors at the far end of the space for an effortless transition to the outdoor terrace. Sheltered by a wall of sweet-scented lilac, guests are welcome to forage through the herb garden just beyond the sliding doors, in search of fresh ingredients to perfect their dishes.

You’ll find an Everhot 120i electric range cooker with an induction hob for large family occasions, while a bean to cup coffee machine caters for post-dinner drinks and early morning pick-me-ups. Two Bosch dishwashers and a double Shaws sink will keep everything tidied away, and the large stainless steel fridge-freezer makes plenty of space for locally grown produce from Padstow Kitchen Garden nearby. Meanwhile, a rustic walk-in larder provides additional storage with slate worktops and a butler sink.

Between the kitchen and dining space sit two wingback chairs, a lime green velvet sofa and an inglenook log burner, which is framed by a reclaimed oak mantlepiece. The perfect setting for cocktail classes, a built-in bar is hidden behind rattan bi-fold doors and features an extensive range of glassware, mixology tools and a drinks fridge. The wood burner is perfectly located for warming this large open space during the colder months.

Designed to comfortably seat 14 guests, the dining table is centrally located so that everyone can enjoy the real pièce de resistance: tidal views over the Camel Estuary. Low hanging rattan lampshades create a cosy ambience, while French oak parquet flooring sits beneath the large table and antique chairs. 

Please note guests with pacemakers should avoid using the induction hob as this can interfere with the device.

Living Area

Enjoying spectacular views over the gardens, the living area sits just off from the dining area and is fronted by huge triple sliding doors onto the decking. Smooth plaster-washed walls, floors and ceilings work to create a welcoming environment for gathering the whole family. A large L-shaped sofa takes centre stage, mirroring the surrounding valleys and woodlands that flank the estuary, while bohemian textures add softness. The 4K laser projector, 110" screen and built-in 5.1 surround sound speakers call for home cinema nights, while an additional open fire sits just underneath. There's also log storage housed underneath the hearth, ready to keep the room cosy during winter storm-watching.

Snug

Separated from the main living spaces, the snug is a great breakout for peaceful moments alone. Walls painted in Paint and Paper Library's "chocolate" coupled with farm-oak parquet flooring create a slumberous vibe, while a dark wooden Indian dresser, period bureau and a biscuit coloured corner sofa add warmth and character to this otherwise minimalist room. Complete with 55-inch LG Oled TV and PlayStation 4, youngsters can flick through endless films or participate in competitive games nights.

With floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, extend the entertainment to the large garden on warmer evenings for a game of table tennis.

Bedroom Five with En-Suite

Light and inviting, expect a continuation of this home’s signature style in bedroom five. Forest green throws and cushions adorn the super king bed, while little ones can ascend a wooden ladder to the built-in mezzanine cabin to find an equally cosy sleeping spot for two. On warmer evenings, pull back the sliding doors for direct access onto the patio, where a private woodland and grassy lawn lie just beyond.

In the corner of the room, a freestanding French tub occupies an envious spot overlooking the countryside, while a cactus green tiled bathroom with a waterfall shower sits opposite.

Bedroom Six with Shower Room and Separate Living Space

Accessible from bedroom five, a short flight of steps reveals this private suite for two. Finished in tonal greens, a king sized bed rests comfortably opposite endless woodland views, and a walk-in wardrobe offers sufficient storage space. A Moroccan jute rug paired with rattan bedside lights add a touch of homespun personality to this wabi-sabi boudoir, and a freestanding period French copper bath tub finishes the space. 

Gilded with pink tumbled marble tiles and antiqued brass fittings, a separate shower room can be found opposite, designed for luxurious relaxation.

Drawing inspiration from Japanese aesthetics, the open plan living and kitchenette space is the perfect spot for enjoying peaceful moments away from the rest of the group. Complete with a retro Smeg fridge-freezer, electric range cooker and LG Oled TV, sink into the sofa as your morning coffee brews, to reconnect with neighbouring wildlife. During the warmer months, pull back the sliding doors to bask in the summer sun from the private patio. 

This space also benefits from private access at the end of the house, plus parking for another two cars.

Entranceway

Warm modernist interiors, mink plaster-washed walls and polished floors make way for an effortlessly cool open plan hallway. Sitting at the bottom of this split levelled space, sliding doors lead straight out to the garden, which is home to views of rolling hills and a glistening estuary. With the kitchen lying to the right and the snug to the left, transition between each open space with ease as you're greeted by the great outdoors.

Encompassing a vast wicker central pendant light, the chestnut open-riser staircase allows natural light to flood the downstairs level, highlighting the contrast between the home's modern and repurposed finishings.

Utility

Just off from the main entrance, this large utility is complete with an LG washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a large farmhouse sink, and a ceiling mounted drying rack. With polished walnut worktops and reclaimed oak cabinetry, send any laundry down the chute from the upstairs space directly into the basket for washing.

Kit Room 

Perfect for watersports enthusiasts, take to the kit room with wetsuits after busy days exploring North Cornwall’s beautiful bays. After rinsing off outside, hang beachwear to dry above the repurposed farmer’s trough. 

WC

To the right of the front door, you’ll find a small WC complete with a 1940s style sink, smooth concrete floors and charred timber cladding.

Boot Room and Garage

This garage has been utilised as a space to store sandy wellies, surfboards and equipment after days spent on nearby beaches.

Master Bedroom with Balcony and En-Suite

Impressive in size, the master bedroom enjoys views over the Camel Estuary and sits high above the terraced garden. Finished in dusky blues and earthy neutrals, an inviting timber-framed super king bed commands this Nordic nest and comes complete with chestnut nightstands and a mid-century Danish dressing table. Mink washed walls and soft sloping ceilings work harmoniously alongside a curated library of books, while French farm oak flooring adorned with sheepskin rugs lie underfoot. With sliding doors opening onto the wood-clad balcony, pull up a chair next to olive shrubs to enjoy morning coffees and a novel, as pleasure boats glide across the water below.

Timeless and authentic, retreat to the adjacent en-suite for a soak in the vintage double-ended clawfoot tub. Separated by a wooden pocket door to the right and a walk-in wardrobe to the left, this space has two entrances and features a waterfall shower, plus "his and hers" limestone basins. Reclaimed terracotta tiles lie underfoot, expertly paired with Italian un-lacquered brass fittings and fixtures.

Bedroom Two

A peaceful space finished in clean lines and simple shapes, bedroom two shares the same calming views as the master. A 6ft zip and link sits to the side of the large sliding windows that lead directly onto the balcony, while a chestnut dressing table sits opposite. Valuing texture over colour, the stripped down design of this space promises a restful night’s sleep. Minimalist lamps flank the bed for a warming glow, while touches of bohemian design are thoughtfully placed throughout.

Bedroom Three

A sloped ceiling paired with sliding windows gives bedroom three a light and refreshing feel. Featuring a 6ft zip and link bed, turn this space into a versatile room depending on your family’s requirements. Meanwhile, large built-in wardrobes provide plenty of storage space. This room is draped in soft linens and finished in a palette of off-whites, with statement cushions for a pop of warmth. On warmer mornings, gaze out towards the adjacent woodland from the large wooden bench seat.

Bedroom Four

Situated at the end of the corridor, bedroom four is a reflection of its neighbours, with a wall-mounted neutral headboard framing the 6ft zip and link bed. Wooden accents and a built-in wardrobe add texture, while maintaining the striking aesthetic that runs through the house. Softened by layering luxe textiles, sheepskin throws, linen curtains and a feature rug, retreat here after days spent wandering The Saint’s Way - accessed from the bottom of the garden.

Shower Room

Sitting at the end of the hallway for use of bedrooms two, three and four, you’ll find a smaller bathroom complete with a walk-in waterfall shower. Rich micro-cement walls, Lume Musk tiles and an expansive floor-to-ceiling window give this compact space a light and airy feel.

Family Bathroom

Earthy green tiles meet hand-hewn micro-cement from this sleek family bathroom. Complete with Italian brass fittings, a waterfall shower and a neutral geometric rug, reap the benefits of the underfloor heating as you sink into the tub to savour countryside views.

Swimming Pool

Occupying a secluded spot on the lower tier, the heated outdoor pool provides endless entertainment. Lined in a black slate finish, it invites morning lengths with views over the ever-changing estuary. Heated from April to October, the pool measures 11 x 4 metres and is accompanied by a warm outdoor shower. Bathe in the sun on the lawn that encompasses the pool and relish a yoga session in the open-air studio all before cooling off with a relaxing dip.

With table tennis and a pool table also situated nearby, spend balmy afternoons taking it turns to splash in the pool and compete in family games tournaments. 

Balcony

Spanning the length of the first floor, this vast wood-clad space enjoys far-reaching rural views across the Camel Estuary and is shared by the four first floor bedrooms, which all enjoy direct access through sliding doors.

It can also be accessed via the upstairs landing which is complete with a built-in storage bench. Fronted in black raw steel balustrades, take a seat around the wooden outdoor table at canopy height to admire nearby beech trees and seasonal blooms. 

Gardens and Woodland

Bringing you closer to estuary life, the expansive east-facing tiered garden blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Encompassed by ancient stone walls and decorated with a combination of Mediterranean and Cornish planting, lovers of the outdoors will relish this carefully designed space. Located just outside the kitchen, guests can enjoy al fresco suppers on the outdoor dining table before taking to the walled garden to admire its natural spring stream. With charcuterie boards and cheese platters prepared, the triple sliders provide direct access onto the sun-silvered larch decking. Extend the entertainment into the evening with a little help from the outdoor fire pit, perfect for watching golden hour settle across the water with a glass of fizz. 

Flanked by a private wooded valley and fresh springwater stream, follow a trail of ferns to the samphire flats of the Camel Estuary just beyond the gardens.

Parking 

Situated at the front of the property, the large driveway is accessed via a private road. There’s ample parking for six cars with space for four just outside the front door and the further two tucked away behind the property, where a private entrance to the annexe awaits.

Access to The Saint's Way

To the left of the house, a private woodland runs towards the water’s edge and is hugged by the historic long distance walking route known as The Saint’s Way.

With direct access onto the water, admire the ever-changing tides of the Camel Estuary from your own private lookout. 

 

From here, guests can join the Camel Trail to explore the Queen Victoria obelisk and remains of Padstow’s historic railway line, or stop for a seafood lunch by the harbour. A fantastic walk for dog-lovers and adventurous families in search of a day trip, you can reach the centre of Padstow within 20 minutes.
