Clifftop

Bigbury-on-Sea, DevonSleeps: 14Bedrooms: 7Bathrooms: 6

Home > Our Properties > Clifftop
Floating above the ocean with a spa-like hot tub and sauna, Clifftop promises panoramic views and a true escape from reality. Sunsets here are best seen to be believed.
  • Sea-view hot tub
  • Outdoor Zoki sauna
  • Elevated terrace
  • Uninterrupted ocean views
  • Short walk to the beach
  • Feature wood burner

A beachfront bolthole that promises a magical sundown setting, Clifftop blends modern-rustic luxury with a stunning coastal vista. Featuring a hot tub and wood-clad sauna, it lends itself to indulgent spa breaks and family escapes on the coast, where some of the best views in Devon await. Offering a design masterclass through pitched ceilings, expansive glass and soft woods, architects VESP have created a space that's both breath-taking and welcoming; South West design at its best.

Set across three floors, expansive sea views can be found around every corner. Curated with large groups in mind, the modern kitchen and dining area calls for quality time over seafood platters and overflowing coupes, while rich terracottas and inky greys combine to reflect the coast’s ever-changing palette. After leisurely suppers, head to the west-facing balcony that lies just beyond the open plan living space. With views over Challaborough Beach and afar, pull back sliding doors and lounge in the sun with drinks in hand.

For the best views in the house, the panoramic living area is an idyllic setting throughout the day. Ascend the stairs for breakfast with a view and when night falls, settle in for an evening in front of the commanding feature wood burner.

All seven bedrooms have been tastefully designed using a pared-back palette of whites and warm wooden tones, bringing a calming feel to each. Every small detail has been considered and two of the bedrooms benefit from sensational sea views, plus direct access onto the elevated terrace – a perfect spot for enjoying morning coffees above the waves.

Complete with a hot tub and wood-clad Zoki sauna, the tiered garden enjoys uninterrupted views across glistening ocean tides and pockets of jewel-green countryside. Return from days on the sand and cook up a feast for the whole family from the Big Green Egg barbeque, before tiptoeing to the sauna for moments enveloped in warmth.

Situated in the heart of South Devon’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Bigbury-on-Sea is home to one of the region’s most popular beaches. What was once a sleepy fisherman’s village is now a much-loved retreat for families, foodies and walking enthusiasts. With other prevalent South Hams destinations like Salcombe and Hope Cove only a short drive away, there’s so much to explore on your doorstep.

Clifftop is brand new to our portfolio – additional photography and our professional video, plus interactive floorplans, are coming soon.

More about theGround Floor

Living Area

Home to soothing views over Bigbury’s rugged coastline, this elevated living space exudes a restful ambience. Allow the sea breeze to pass through sliding doors on sunny days as you spot dolphins from the rocking chair.

Located opposite the balcony and flanked with cognac leather armchairs, the eight-seater dining table is the perfect spot for watching the waves. Behind terracotta sliding doors you’ll find a kitchenette equipped with all the tools to prepare an afternoon tea, and when the sun starts to fade, move across to the enclosed mini bar for daiquiris at dusk.

Transforming into a true night-time hideaway, two large grey Loaf sofas, a commanding black wood burner, a coffee table and Smart TV with SONOS make up the right-hand side of the living space. With a vibrant feature rug underfoot, keep the fire well stoked and curl up with a glass of red for a blissful evening routine.

Bedroom Three with En-suite

Featuring a 6ft zip and link bed and a luxurious en-suite, bedroom three is within easy reach of the ground floor living area. Useful for guests with limited mobility, there’s plenty of space to move around with ease, as well as a built-in nook for hanging your holiday wardrobe.

A rattan chair and Jonathan Alder rug fill the space with texture, while the thoughtfully designed en-suite enjoys a large walk-in waterfall shower, and a wall-mounted shower seat with a handrail.

Bedroom Four

Soft sloping ceilings and a large skylight window bring a soothing atmosphere to this light and airy room. The wooden headboard complements its fresh white interiors, while subtle touches of green can be found throughout. A freestanding wardrobe sits opposite the 5ft zip and link bed, and two bedside tables sit either side.

Balcony

Accessed via sliding doors, the glass-fronted balcony enjoys an elevated position and is the perfect spot for both sunbathing and storm-watching. Prepare your drink of choice and take a seat in the chair to find otherworldly views that rival a tropical paradise.

WC

Located to the left of the front entrance and decorated in vibrant yellow tiles, you’ll find the WC that serves the upstairs living space and bedroom four.

More about theFirst Lower Ground Floor

Open Plan Kitchen and Dining Area

Backed by deep blue sea, the kitchen is light and contemporary. Complete with a built-in Bosch oven and microwave oven, Neff induction hob and Samsung American-style fridge-freezer, it’s an idyllic setting to prepare dinner while keeping an eye on the ocean tides. Prepare fresh pastries and fruit from the wood-clad island before popping a bottle of crisp white in the wine fridge, ready to pour at supper. For those perfecting their sourdough starter, there’s also a proving drawer as well as a Quooker tap and a Nespresso Krups coffee machine for espressos on the go

When you’ve finished preparing dinner, the sea-view dining area is a great space for coming together. Complete with terracotta stressless Carver chairs, sample tasty local produce from the extendable dining table as you listen to the sound of the waves below.

Please note that guests with pacemakers should avoid using the induction hob as this can interfere with the device.

Bedroom Five with En-suite

Similar to bedroom four, this room has been decorated in crisp white linens and wooden accents, and finished with a colourful floral rug that spans the width of the room. Benefitting from a 5ft zip and link bed, this bedroom can transition from a king to a twin depending on your group’s requirements.

To the left of the bed, a wooden pocket door reveals a blue tiled en-suite bathroom, complete with a waterfall shower and heated towel rail.

Snug

Tucked behind the dining area, the snug is home to a second Smart TV. A perfect space for those seeking a quiet moment away from the group, there’s a soft L-shaped sofa and the room is finished in slate grey tones.

Balcony

A place where inside and outside living join harmoniously together, tick al fresco dining off your holiday wishlist from the second balcony. Accessed through the sliding doors in the kitchen and dining area, this space comes complete with an outdoor dining table, perfect for those summer months when warm evenings linger.

Wet Room and Utility

Complete with two showers, overhead hanging rails and a large farmhouse sink, the wet room takes the stress out of post-swim routines. Finished in yellow and black terrazzo tiles, this space also features an additional WC to serve the first lower ground floor.

Separated by double swinging doors, you’ll find an AEG washing machine and tumble dryer plus plenty of shelving space for storing clothing away from sandy items.

More about theExterior

Hot Tub

Overlooking wild turquoise ocean, the sea-view hot tub was made for unwinding in the open air. Located on the decking area and perched just above the sauna, its elevated spot means you’re exposed to the elements in the best possible way. Explore the surrounding coastline before returning home to plunge under a shroud of steam - the perfect tonic after busy days.

Sauna

Studded into the cliff-face, the wood-clad Zoki sauna is perfectly located for a quick dash from the hot tub. After tackling the waves, take a seat inside the warm wooden hut and let the wilds of Devon’s coast soothe your soul.

Terrace

Home to uninterrupted views, the elevated terrace stretches across the front of the second lower ground floor, and is shared by the two bedrooms on this level that both enjoy direct access through sliding doors. Relax into the outdoor furniture with a book and mug of tea, before descending the stairs to arrive on the decking.

Due to the house's clifftop location, there's a steep drop at the edge of the garden. While it's secured with fencing, children and dogs must be supervised when using this area.

Outdoor Shower

Located just outside the wet room, the hand held outdoor shower is a great addition to post-surf routines. Rinse sandy belongings under the water before retreating inside to hang wetsuits.

Parking and Electric Car Charger

Situated at the front of the property, there’s plenty of parking for three cars on the driveway, and a Zappi electric car charger to the left-hand side of the drive.
