One of the best local walks connects Watergate Bay with Porth Island. From Porth Beach, follow the coastal path away from Newquay, where you’ll pass Trevelgue Head to Fruitful Cove. The latter enjoys panoramic views over Watergate Bay, the sands of which stretch on for over a mile. Be sure to check the Newquay tide times before you head off, as the beach route is only accessible two hours either side of low tide. Find full details here.

Another of the area’s finest walking routes begins at nearby Crantock. Beginning on the beach, chart a circular path that first winds along the Gannel Estuary to Penpol Creek before looping back through the village of Crantock. You can also walk to Crantock Beach from Newquay, with a seasonal foot ferry connecting the two across the River Gannel. Find full details here.

Porth Beach is dog-friendly from 1^st October to 14^th May each year. There are many beautiful beaches close by that remain dog-friendly throughout the year. Among the best is Newquay’s own Fistral Beach, a world-famous stretch of golden sand renowned for its surf and family-friendly atmosphere.

Newquay boasts a wide range of attractions and experiences both within the town itself and on its doorstep. Blue Reef Aquarium, perched above Towan Beach, is home to a vast array of sea life, including several sharks, a coral reef and even a Loggerhead Sea Turtle. 

Once you’ve immersed yourself in this fascinating underwater world, why not take to the ocean yourself? There are several companies offering sea safaris and fishing trips from Newquay Harbour, including Cornwall Waverunner Safaris, Bootlegger Fishing Trips, Mystique Fish Newquay, and Newquay Harbour Boatman’s Association. You can also learn to surf, jet ski, and walk a tightrope between clifftops at Lusty Glaze Adventure Centre.
