Recommendations for Daymer Bay
Forming part of the River Camel rather than the open ocean, the waters of Daymer Bay Beach are sheltered, so you’re unlikely to come across waves here. This makes it a wonderful spot for wild swimming, especially as they are entered via a gently sloping beach. The latter also means the water remains shallow for a considerable distance.
Daymer Bay Beach is dog-friendly all year round, so your canine companions can join you for fun on the sands and paddles in the Camel Estuary’s calm and shallow waters.
Daymer Bay has breath-taking walking routes on its doorstep. Here are some of the highlights.
Daymer Bay to Padstow
Embark on a figure-of-eight walk that charts its way through sand dunes to Rock. You’ll pass St Enodoc Church along the way before hopping aboard the passenger ferry to Padstow. From here, the route ascends from the harbour to Doom Bar, eventually passing back over the river and along Daymer Bay’s soft golden sands. Find full details here.
Polzeath to Enodoc Church
Begin at one of north Cornwall’s most cherished slices of sand, Polzeath Beach, and follow the coastal path known as ‘The Greenaway’. This picture-perfect stretch passes a plethora of beautiful coves adorned with colourful rocks and pools at low tide, encompassing the remnants of shipwrecks at Trebetherick Point, before arriving at Daymer Bay Beach. Head through the dunes to St Enodoc Church, where poet Sir John Betjeman is buried. This awe-inspiring landmark has an unusual, twisted spire, and far-reaching views to the sea. Daymer Bay lies within one of Cornwall’s foodie hotspots, and you’re never far away from outstanding cafés and restaurants. Less than a mile away, you’ll find The Mowhay, a café by day and restaurant by night that serves a menu of mostly fish and meat-based dishes throughout the day.
