Recommendations for Polzeath
Known for its laid back dining options and post-surf pit stops, there’s plenty of restaurants, cafés and pubs to choose from in Polzeath.
Find fresh seafood and sea views to match at The Cracking Crab, or keep it casual with a supper of small plates at The Waterfront. Family-friendly options include stonebaked pizzas at The Atlantic and pub classics at The Oystercatcher, both are set back from the beach and welcome dogs too.
There’s also Surfside which sits on the sand and enjoys beautiful views over the waves. Visit during the day for coffees and cake, or stay later for sundowners, tapas and live music. During the summer months, enjoy dining al fresco or take a seat on their elevated terrace at golden hour.
A little further afield, you’ll find some of Cornwall’s best fine dining restaurants with the likes of The Mariners, The Dining Room and Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen in nearby Rock and Port Isaac.
Polzeath’s Blue Flag beach is amongst Cornwall’s most-loved locations for sunkissed beach days, surf sessions and winter dog walks. For those more experienced with the waves, hire surfboards and wetsuits from TJ’s Surf Shop before heading out. Alternatively, ask our Concierge team to arrange a lesson during your stay with George’s Surf School. Children and adults alike will love learning the basics before taking to Polzeath’s world famous waters.
Low tide reveals a large expanse of soft sand which is perfect for collecting shells and exploring rock pools, while high tide provides a great opportunity for wave watching. With many hidden coves tucked away around the surrounding coastline, it's easy to beach hop during your stay. Find a secluded spot on Baby Bay for a swim and sauna session, or climb the coast path over to Daymer Bay for an afternoon of laid back sunbathing and ice cream sampling.
If you’d rather stay on dry land, enjoy an afternoon practicing your swing at The Point’s 18-hole golf course. Or opt for something a little more competitive with Cornish Rock Tors’ archery and axe throwing sessions. There’s also the dreamy Cowshed Spa nearby at the St Moritz Hotel, where pamper sessions and massage therapies await for those wishing to switch off during a stay.
While Polzeath is renowned for its excellent surfing and bodyboarding conditions, swimming is best enjoyed at one of its nearby coves. Adjacent to Polzeath is Baby Bay, a small secluded inlet, perfect for heading out for a cold water dip. Saunas by the Sea offer 50 minute sessions for those who love a dose of heat therapy, where the salty waves are best enjoyed at high tide (and shortens the walk to the shore).
Another option is Greenaway Beach which can be accessed via the coast path between Polzeath and Daymer Bay, with the latter also great for a shallow swim.
During the winter months, Polzeath transforms into a windswept coastal idyll. Welcoming dogs from October until May half term, enjoy welly boot walks at low tide or join the coast path for a longer route. Head north towards The Rumps where sunbathing seals and swimming dolphins can be spotted in the surrounding waters. On return to the sand, pick up whipped cream hot chocolates from Beach Box, or enjoy something a little more filling with a Sunday roast from our team’s favourite, The Atlantic.
Though it's a little quieter, most of the pubs and restaurants remain open for beach goers and intrepid surfers. And with all of them accepting dogs, there’s no better location for a wintery walk followed by lunch and a pint. What’s more, the winter also brings with it some of the most incredible sunsets - so stay until late afternoon to watch the sky turn fiery orange as the sun falls behind the horizon.
