Set on the edge of the cliff overlooking the water, while away blissful days at Sea Edge in Downderry. Clean lines blend with natural colours and a striking wood clad exterior, resulting in an architecturally astounding holiday home.
The large open plan living area is edged by glass and leads onto a sun terrace, which frames the endless views to the south and west. Finished in neutral tones and organic materials, this is a space for switching off and getting away from it all. The minimalist kitchen has everything you need for hosting, and the statement dining table looks out across the sea. After leisurely suppers, gather beside the wood burner for a game of chess, lounge on the corner sofa in front of the Smart TV or stretch out on the window seat and watch the stars appear.
On the lower ground floor, all three ocean view bedrooms open onto the patio and come with their own en-suites. The master is a sleek king size room with a walk-in wardrobe, bedroom two has a super king size zip and link bed, which can be made up as twins, and bedroom three is another stunning king size room. Nestled at the back of the house, a dedicated TV room is ideal for movie nights.
Anchored at the bottom of the property, Sea Edge’s waterside garden exudes tranquillity. Carry sharing platters and summer cocktails down to the outdoor dining table and watch afternoons spread out before you with nothing to do but relax. The cedar-clad hot tub is nestled amongst coastal plants and grasses, so you’ll be able to enjoy the sea view in privacy.
Sea Edge is set in the middle of the charming village of Downderry and just a short walk from Seaton. Much quieter than the buzzing north coast towns, this peaceful location is the perfect retreat from everyday life. The shingle beaches are just a short walk down the hill and there are numerous sandy coves along the coastline, including Whitsand Bay and Tregantle Beach. The immensely popular town of Looe is a 20 minute drive away, and home to a myriad of restaurants and shops.
The sea views are impossible to ignore. Whether you’re relaxing in the hot tub or curled up in the window seat, there are so many spaces to just sit and watch the ebb and flow of the tide.

South East Cornwall is sprinkled with pretty beaches and coves. Great for families, Downderry Beach is a mix of sand and shingle, and the sheltered Seaton Beach is just a five minute stroll away. Tregantle Beach and the numerous sandy coves at Whitsand Bay are less than 15 minutes away by car. Great for surfing and bodyboarding, we’d recommend lessons for beginners at Whitsand Bay as there are some rip currents. The ever popular Looe Beach and Talland Bay are also a short drive to the west.
If the weather takes a turn, the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe makes a great family day out. Home to a range of species, the income from visitors goes towards protecting monkeys across the globe. Just across the border in Plymouth, there’s a whole host of activities for children, including the National Marine Aquarium, the Pavilions Ice Skating Rink and a large Vue cinema complex. Adrenalin Quarry near Liskeard is a must for thrill-seekers, with a 490m zip wire, giant swing and inflatable aqua park.
Follow the South West Coast Path towards Rame Head and you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views across Plymouth Sound to the east and The Lizard to the west. The route from Downderry to Seaton and out towards Looe, Polperro and Polruan is also recommended, as is the inland walk through the woods to Hissenford. If you enjoy cycling, drive to Bodmin or Wadebridge and embark on the scenic Camel Trail to Padstow. Golfers are also well catered for with the Looe and Whitsand Bay golf courses nearby, and St Mellion just 13 miles away.
Set in the heart of Downderry, the Blue Plate Restaurant is a laid back setting for coffee, lunch, cocktails or an evening meal. There are a handful of cafés and pubs in nearby Seaton and you’ll find incredibly fresh seafood at The Sardine Factory in Looe. For delicious modern British food, we’d suggest a trip to Langmans Restaurant, which is a 30 minute drive away in Callington. There are a whole host of high quality restaurants and bars in Plymouth, while Camel Valley and Knightor vineyards are also within an hour’s drive.
For a truly immersive pampering experience, treat yourself to a day of relaxation at the Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall in Plymouth. With 12 different treatment rooms, a stunning pool and patio hot tubs, the holistic experiences bring together the elements of earth, fire, water and air. If you don’t mind a 45 minute drive, the charming Fowey Hall Hotel Spa has incredible views over the harbour, a hot tub and an indoor pool. Many of the spa day packages come with a wonderfully indulgent afternoon tea, the perfect way to finish the day.

Our second visit to Sea Edge and it still gives the 'wow' factor when you walk in the front door. We have loved it here both times, as has Chester our dog, who has loved the long walks on the beach every day. Thank you for creating such a beautiful haven.
”Had the most amazing week here in such a beautiful house. It was so nice to sit in the window seat and watch the sea and the beach below. Beautifully furnished and the hot tub was lovely to go and relax in. The Blue Plate restaurant and Summink Different Café are both highly recommended. We enjoyed several days out including the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Plymouth Aquarium. Very sad to leave and shall miss the amazing views. We would love to come back in the winter and sit and watch the sea. Thank you for an incredible holiday that we will never forget.
”Wow indeed! What a magnificent view, thoroughly enjoyed by all... adults, children and canine! We have had a super week sea fishing in Looe, swimming in the sea at Windsand Bay and walking along the coastline to Polperro. Like so many of your guests, the magnetic draw of Sea Edge brought us back here to enjoy the view, amazing architecture and hot tub. Would love to return one day.
”This was our second visit and looking forward to returning in May 2020 for two more weeks. Visited Kingsand and Cawsand which was a very quiet village and had a lovely lunch at The Devonport Inn. Sat in the sunshine looking at the sea eating fresh mackerel and had a paddle boarding lesson with Lucy at SUP. She was a great teacher and would recommend her highly - the paddling has come on leaps and bounds.
Sea Edge is so relaxing but in such a great location that you can be as active or relaxed as you wish. We also had Nina from Devon Chef cook at Sea Edge one evening and the meal was superb. Also ate at the Blue Plate three times. Faultless.
”Fantastic family holiday! Awesome views. Blue Plate is a must for dinner and Summink Different Café for breakfast and the best coffee, plus service with a smile. Would recommend Fowey via the Bodinnick Ferry, and Padstow is only an hour away and well worth a visit. Thank goodness for wonderful weather to complete our Cornish stay!
