Mousehole Christmas lights

Posted by Perfect Stays on Nov 06, 2018

Christmas carols and vibrant lights

Every year, locals and visitors flock to the fisherman's village of Mousehole to soak up their annual Christmas lights. Experience a special taste of Cornwall's winter wonderland this festive season, with a brass band and choir on hand to set the tone for the evening.

Watch in awe as the village and harbour sparkle with an array of bright colours, sure to get you into the festive spirit in no time. Discover the festive characters that await, keeping your eyes peeled for the whale and serpent dipping their heads out of the harbour, along with the 150ft spectacle 'Merry Christmas' sign on the hillside.

Get lost in the magic

With limited parking space, hop on nearby Penzance’s park and ride bus or try your luck with parking nearby the centre, factoring in enough time for a chilly stroll into the heart of Mousehole. Upon your arrival, ramble through the narrow streets, following the winding strings of lanterns as they flit between corners, streets and houses. Don’t forget to pop into some of the local shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs for a much needed winter warmer. From mulled wine and cider to hot chocolate and cake, there’s sure to be a sweet treat waiting to soothe frosty hands.

Although the event is free, the festive event welcomes donations. Empty your pennies into the collector’s boxes peppered across the village and do your bit to keep the enchanting event thriving for years to come. It's also worth nothing that in mid-December each year, the lights switch off for an hour to commemorate the crew of the Penlee Lifeboat disaster of 1981.

The perfect Mousehole home

Take the magic home with you as you return to Porth Enys House. Perched just above Mousehole Harbour, enjoy the gardens saturated with flowers, bright interiors, eclectic artwork and expansive sea views. For cosy evenings in, take to the cinema room and settle in with your favourite film, before retreating to one of five bedrooms for a peaceful night's sleep.

Just under a ten minute drive away from Mousehole is the seaside town of Newlyn, home to the architectural gem Blue Elvin. Luxe, contemporary and fresh, continue the fun into the night in the games room or TV room.
