Rooted in community

From serene subtropical coves to wild moorland and everything in between, the love we have for the South West is deep rooted. Whether you’re visiting the region for the first time or tradition has kept you holidaying here yearly, it’s people that make this beautiful corner of the country so special. And, they're at the heart of everything we do.

We’ve always envisioned a thriving, sustainable and inviting South West and we aim to champion thoughtful tourism and local organisations wherever we can. This takes many forms - whether it’s recommending the best cream tea Cornwall has to offer, or partnering with local surf schools to create memorable firsts on the water.

Last year, we promoted over 200 local businesses and collectively completed over 80 hours of volunteering and wellbeing activities, because we’re committed to positively impacting our communities.

Each financial year, our devoted team of Charity and Wellbeing Ambassadors work with a local charity to raise funds and awareness for those making a difference within the South West. Read on to find out more about how we support our local communities.

Our chosen charities for 2026/27

This year, we’re supporting not one, but two charities that save lives daily. The Cornwall Air Ambulance and Devon Air Ambulance provide critical care to the most seriously sick or injured by air and road. Given the isolated beaches and rural settlements in both counties, their work is vital to both residents and tourists. Both charities receive no government funding and are therefore completely self-sufficient, running on donations alone.

Born in 1987 in response to the need for rapid medical care in Cornwall’s remote areas, the Cornwall Air Ambulance were the first ambulance service in the UK. Now, they’ve completed over 32,000 missions. The CAA crew attend over 1,000 missions a year, on average three per day, for 19 hours each day, every day of the year. The two helicopters can reach speeds of 160mph and get to the scene of an emergency in an astounding 12 minutes throughout Cornwall. But, they have to raise a staggering £8 million a year to be able to operate.

The Devon Air Ambulance was founded by Ann Sulli. After her son was killed, she was told that the quicker a patient receives treatment, the better their chances of survival. Thus the "Ceri Thomas Appeal" was created. Named after her son, it raised funds for Devon’s first Air Ambulance. And in 1992, they flew for their first mission. Today, over 20 years later, the DAA have over 600 volunteers, have completed 36,946 missions and possess two state-of-the-art Airbus emergency helicopters, as well as four critical care cars. Yet their vision remains the same: to end preventable death, disability and suffering from critical illness or injury. Each mission costs £5,000, and in 2025, they completed 2,215 air and land missions.

Our efforts in action

This financial year, we’ve already held a Wimbledon-inspired bake sale, where we baked and devoured every sweet treat, from Centre Court Cookies to Match Point Millionaires. Our World Cup sweepstake has unleashed our inner competitiveness and raised significant funds. And we're hoping for lots more events throughout the year.

We’ve also pledged to donate a small fee from every booking to the Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulance charities. And, our team have the wonderful opportunity to use their annual paid volunteering day to witness and support operations firsthand.

You can help us make sure both the Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulance charities are able to continue saving lives by donating via our JustGiving page and we thank you in advance.

Our impact so far

We’re proud to have a continued legacy in supporting local charities who have all left us inspired and empowered to make a difference.

We're still touched by last year’s collaboration with FareShare South West, where we raised £3,462.60 for the charity, who support local families and reduce the amount of quality food going to landfill.

The Ocean Conservation Trust was our 2024/25 partnership. We raised £1,500 to support their powerful work taking action to protect and restore the ocean.

Inspired by the impact of the Wave Project, we partnered with them in 2023/24. Born in Cornwall, their Surf Therapy programme delivers inclusive surf lessons to all and aims to improve children’s mental health and wellbeing.

A collaboration which has stayed deep in our hearts was our 2022/23 partnership with the Children’s Hospice South West. We’re pleased to have raised vital funds for their remarkable hospices and continue to admire all they do.

If you’re curious to find out more about our fundraising efforts, or a local charity in need of our support - check out our Supporting Local Causes Page and get in touch to be considered for a 2027/28 partnership.
