Seathrift

Porthleven, CornwallSleeps: 7 - 11Bedrooms: 5Bathrooms: 3

Home > Our Properties > Seathrift
With awe-inspiring sea views, Seathrift is an alluring hideaway across all seasons. Lounge by the outdoor pool on sunny days, then hunker down for wild winter storm watching.

A stone’s throw from the ocean, Seathrift offers spectacular views over Cornwall’s rugged west coast. Recently renovated to the highest standard, contemporary architecture meets effortless surf style decor in this waterside home. Seathrift’s design has been carefully considered to showcase its incredible views, with the living, kitchen and dining areas located on the first floor. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors invite mornings spent wave watching and evenings soaking up sublime sunsets.

Dog-friendly and a short walk from Porthleven, this beach house is well suited to families and groups of friends. Five bedrooms are tucked away on the ground floor, all finished in a laid back coastal style with subtle boho touches. Meanwhile, the sleek family bathroom features a large bath tub and a heavenly waterfall shower. The utility room is conveniently placed at the side of the house, perfect for storing sandy surfboards and kicking off welly boots after days on the beach. Upstairs, cook delicious suppers in the modern kitchen, challenge friends to games of chess in the snug, or enjoy balmy summer evenings relaxing on the sea-view balcony.

Whether the sun blazes or the Atlantic waves crash, Seathrift’s heated swimming pool provides a sanctuary of calm for rest or play (April – October). Wake up early and go for an invigorating dip before breakfast, or spend sunny days poolside with family and friends. The pizza oven, barbeque and outdoor dining table welcome open-air entertaining, reminiscent of holidays abroad without the need to step foot on a plane.

With foodie Porthleven just a 10 minute walk away, you’ll love dining at some of Cornwall’s most renowned restaurants like Amelie’s and Kota Kai, while The Ship Inn provides a cosy pub lunch with views over the harbour. Enjoy dog walks on Porthleven Beach, explore the surrounding coastline with day trips to Praa Sands and Marazion, or take in more incredible sea views at Kynance Cove, half an hour away.

Seathrift is brand new to our portfolio - interactive floorplans and professional photography are coming soon.

More about theGround Floor

Master Bedroom
To the left of the front door lies the beautifully finished master bedroom. From the seagrass flooring and rustic bedside tables to the large rattan mirror above the king size bed, the master bedroom introduces a relaxed boho style to its coastal setting. The large wardrobe and chest of drawers provide ample room to hang and store clothes, while the scandi-style en-suite boasts a deep freestanding bath and walk-in waterfall shower. Come morning, enjoy a cup of tea while watching the waves roll in outside the bedroom window.

Bedroom Two
Opposite the master is another king size bedroom with a beautiful en-suite bathroom. Two large chest of drawers provide plenty of storage, with additional under-bed space for tucking away suitcases. The en-suite bathroom features beautiful dark blue tiles and a luxurious waterfall shower, making it a haven of tranquillity.

Bedroom Three
Sleeping up to three guests, little ones can choose between the top or bottom bunk, or opt for the single bed. A wardrobe and chest of drawers provide enough storage for everyone, while the family bathroom is just across the hall.

Bedroom Four
A zip and link bed means bedroom four can be shaped around your family’s requirements. As either a king or twin beds, this room is a cosy retreat after days spent by the coast. With a Smart TV, escape to catch the new episode of your favourite series or play the radio as you get ready in the morning.

Bedroom Five
Another bunk room, bedroom five is ideal for younger guests. The modern beach house interiors are echoed throughout the space, with seagrass flooring, rustic wooden furniture and colourful artwork.

Family Bathroom
A good sized family bathroom serves three bedrooms on the ground floor. The room is beautifully finished with white and duck egg blue tiles, while one wall features a magnificent full-size mirror. Soak into a cloud of bubbles in the large bath tub or feel instantly refreshed under the waterfall shower.

Utility
The spacious utility is equipped with a Hoover washing machine, Servis washer dryer and Lamona oven. There’s also plenty of room for storing wetsuits, welly boots and beach gear.

More about theFirst Floor

Kitchen and Dining Area

Upstairs is the true heart of the home, where the open plan kitchen, dining and living room all blend seamlessly together. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide an impressive backdrop, with views spanning the blue ocean as far as the eye can see. An ode to Cornwall’s surfing scene, vintage surfboards and memorabilia decorate the space, making it a true coastal bolthole.

Finished in muted greens with marble countertops and rustic brick flooring, Seathrift’s kitchen is a real masterpiece, with views both out to sea and across the garden. There’s a Neff electric induction hob, oven and combi microwave oven, plus two Miele dishwashers and an American-style LG fridge freezer. The uniquely shaped kitchen island invites everyone to pull up a bar stool and plan the day’s adventures over a coffee from the Nespresso Magimix. There's also a spacious dining table for everyone to gather together at dinner time.

Please note: guests with pacemakers should avoid using the induction hob as this can interfere with the device.

TV Room
Hidden at the back of the living space is the TV room. Complete with a sumptuous corner sofa, Panasonic Smart TV and PlayStation 4, younger guests will love to break away for the evening to watch their favourite films.

Living Area and Snug

Looking out across the ocean, the sociable living area is framed by an expanse of glass doors. During the summer, slide them open to enjoy an early evening tipple on the balcony. Play your favourite music through the built-in SONOS speakers, or simply enjoy the sound of the crashing waves beneath you.

Come winter, light the Austroflamm wood burner and curl up on the sofa to chat long into the evening. This is the best seat in the house to watch the famous Porthleven storms roll in from the harbour.

For those needing to catch up on emails or steal some time to themselves, a separate snug just off the living area promises a moment’s peace from the hub of the group. Along with a coffee table and chairs, Seathrift’s surf-style decor runs through the space to make it a real home from home, perfect for board games.

WC
Brought to life with sailboat wallpaper, industrial style lighting and a feature mirror, there’s a convenient WC just outside the TV room.

Swimming Pool
Taking centre stage in the elevated garden, the private swimming pool is a real showstopper. Heated from April to October, start the day with a peaceful dip or enjoy afternoons splashing around with little ones.

Elevated one level above the swimming pool, a neatly manicured lawn sits at the top of the garden. From here, take in the sea views and relax in the sunshine, or break away from the group with a romantic lunchtime picnic for two.

A welcoming space accessible from the open plan living and dining area, the balcony provides an incredible coastal vista and a peaceful spot to enjoy a morning coffee on the low slung furniture.

Porthleven

Food and drink

Over the last few years, Porthleven has become a hub for high quality restaurants, cafes and delis. From miso scallops to Cornish duck with pomegranate and star anise, foodies will love the Asian inspired dishes served up at Kota. Set right on the harbour front, it’s the perfect spot for a quiet meal overlooking the picture-perfect fishing harbour. For something a little more casual, try Amelies, where you can expect excellent service, great Mediterranean food and a laid-back atmosphere. Or if you’re just after the perfect flat white with a slice of cake, look no further than the stylish Origin Coffee Shop at Harbour Head.

Outdoor pursuits

Set just outside Porthleven, Penrose is a beautiful wooded estate featuring Cornwall’s largest natural lake. With miles of tracks and open parkland, it’s an ideal spot for families to enjoy time together and burn off excess energy. If you’re looking for something a little more energetic, try paddle boarding around the picturesque harbour in Porthleven, or hire kayaks from Vertical Blue and explore nearby hidden coves and quiet beaches. For golfers, take time to play the course at Praa Sands or drive 20 minutes to enjoy Mullion Golf Club, the UK’s most southerly course.

Heritage and culture

A trip to St Michael’s Mount is a must for anyone visiting this part of Cornwall. It’s a magical experience for children as they approach the castle along the granite causeway at low tide. 16th-century Godolphin House is a short ten minute drive away and a lovely spot to spend a sunny afternoon. We recommend taking a picnic and enjoying a leisurely lunch amongst the apple trees in the orchard. Alternatively, head south and explore the iconic Lizard Lighthouse, where you’ll discover the hidden maritime history of this rugged coastline.

Activities for children

Nearby Flambards will be a surefire hit with children of all ages, featuring family-friendly rides and a life size Victorian village. Porthleven Spy Museum Treasure Trail is another great option and an exciting way for little ones to explore the area’s monuments and landmarks. For animal lovers, you can’t beat a trip to the nearby Cornish Seal Sanctuary. Feed the seals during morning breakfast rounds or watch these beautiful animals close up in the underwater viewing area.

Festivals and events

The hugely popular Porthleven Food Festival takes over the town for two days every April and welcomes a whole host of renowned chefs, food producers and live music acts. Culdrose Air Day is another great choice, with flying displays, state-of-the art aircraft to explore and lots of family-friendly activities. For an authentic Cornish experience, you can’t miss the ancient Flora Day festival. Enjoy the colourful pageant of Hal an Tow and dance along with the parades as they meander through the town.
