With a sauna, hot tub and never-ending ocean views, Gwelefan redefines coastal luxury on the edge of Porthtowan’s clifftops.
  • Wood-clad sauna
  • Sea-view hot tub
  • Elevated balcony
  • Designed by Kast Architects
  • Ocean views over Porthtowan
  • Walking distance to the beach

Blending cool Scandi interiors with a breath-taking coastal backdrop, Gwelefan is a stunning property nestled above Porthtowan Beach. Designed by Cornwall’s Kast Architects, this timber-clad home has been carefully composed to maximize its views out to sea, while using natural and eco-conscious materials. Enjoying spa-like facilities inside and out, you’ll find a luxurious sauna and a sea-view hot tub, along with an elevated balcony and ground floor terrace for wave-watching.

Elegantly set across one floor, the kitchen, living and dining area encourages everyone to gather together. Finished in ocean teals and earthy exposed woods, the interiors complement the sea views that await just beyond vast sliding glass doors. Perfect for sociable dining, the repurposed table seats 10 guests, with the contemporary wood-clad kitchen within easy reach. Spill out onto the balcony during summer, or retreat to the living area after supper for golden orange sunsets.

The ground floor is home to all four bedrooms. Minimal in design yet instantly welcoming, they echo the same beautiful interiors woven throughout the house, with wooden floors, monochrome fixings, and fresh artwork lining the walls. To the front of the house, three bedrooms open onto the sea-view terrace, hot tub and dog-friendly lawn, through sliding doors that welcome in the sea breeze.

There are two gorgeous king size bedrooms and another with a zip and link bed, providing flexibility for different group make-ups. The fourth bedroom features bunk beds with a king size bed on the bottom and a single on top. This, coupled with a PlayStation 4, makes it perfect for younger guests. The family bathroom encourages mid-holiday indulgence thanks to a walk-in waterfall shower, bath tub and private sauna.

With Porthtowan’s family-friendly beach within walking distance, it's easy to spend days here skimming stones in its shallow waters, swimming in its tidal pools or surfing its sheltered tides. The Blue Bar and Porthtowan Beach Café both offer relaxed dining options, while St Agnes is a 10 minute drive away and home to the sought-after Peterville Inn and Tap House. Loved for its watersports scene, there’s board hire available from Tris Surf as well as SUP tours, coasteering and kayaking tours – all bookable through our inclusive concierge service.

More about theLower Ground Floor

Master Bedroom with En-suite

Awash in whites, blues and monochrome prints, the master bedroom provides a tranquil haven for two. Sliding doors reveal views over Porthtowan’s beach, with the hot tub, outdoor dining terrace and grassy lawn just footsteps away. The large king size bed and heavy linen curtains promise a restful night’s sleep while a bespoke built-in vanity, shelving and wardrobe unit provide plenty of storage. Two marbled bedside tables and a suede blue armchair round off the space, and a Google Nest speaker is ready to soundtrack your day.

Complete with its own en-suite bathroom, you’ll find a blue-hued wet room with a waterfall shower and built-in bench seating. Finished in brushed brass and textured white tile, this generous space also features under-the-sink storage and plenty of natural light.

Bedroom Two

Similar to the master, this room has been decorated in pale blues and gentle greys. Sliding doors reveal far-reaching coastal views and allow for easy access onto the terrace, no matter the time of day. Benefitting from a 6ft zip and link bed, this bedroom can transition from a king to a twin with ease, depending on your group’s sleeping arrangements. Meanwhile, a dressing table and bespoke built-in wardrobes promise to take care of your storage needs.

Bedroom Three

The last of the sea-facing bedrooms, this king size room is drenched in natural light and radiates a serene, welcoming feel. The wooden headboard complements the fresh white interiors, while contemporary surf prints adorn the walls. You’ll also find a dressing table and built-in wardrobes that make the morning routine a breeze.

Bedroom Four

Home to bunk beds with a king size bed on the bottom and a single on the top, bedroom four can sleep up to three guests. With crisp white linens and exposed wooden furnishings, it’s ideal for younger guests and comes complete with a PlayStation 4. There’s also a chest of drawers for storing holiday clothes and black-out blinds for when early bedtimes call.

Family Bathroom and Sauna

Completing the ground floor is the luxurious family bathroom. Gold fixtures sit beautifully against white tiles, while the waterfall shower provides a pop of colour in glossy teal tiles. Serving bedrooms two, three and four, this bathroom is incredibly spacious with “his and hers” basins and an indulgent bath tub.

Hidden behind a glass door is the beguiling sauna, complete with bench seating and an intricate wood pattern design. Return from refreshing ocean dips and let the warmth of the sauna and the scent of eucalyptus revitalise you before tiptoeing to the hot tub for another touch of spa-like luxury.

More about theGround Floor

Kitchen, Dining and Living Area

Incredibly spacious and occupying the breadth of the first floor, the open plan kitchen, dining and living area offers awe-inspiring views over the beach. An ode to Scadinavian design, the living area sits beneath large pendant lighting and is complemented by deep blue velvet sofas and built-in seating that lines the wall. Inviting the outdoors in from the balcony, vast sliding doors open to reveal an ocean panorama so that the sound of crashing waves is never far away. There’s an LG Smart TV and Polk Soundbar for entertaining, as well as a Google Nest speaker for morning radio shows.

Just behind the living space, a reclaimed wood dining table seats 10 guests, making it the natural setting for holiday meals. It’s framed by a trio of art prints and enjoys gorgeous sea views, best taken in through the striking picture window.

Finished in a combination of teal tones, ashy woods and grey terrazzo tiles, the contemporary kitchen sits behind the dining area. Complete with a Cuisine Master induction hob* and oven, home chefs will relish preparing meals here, with a dishwasher on hand to take care of the washing up. There’s also a large larder cupboard providing plenty of storage for the holiday food shop, as well as a Hisense fridge-freezer. The built-in window seating is where couples will gather for freshly-made lattes from the L’Or coffee machine, while breakfast cooks and the rest of the group wakes up.

*Please note that guests with pacemakers should avoid using the induction hob as this can interfere with the device.

Utility and WC

Finished in fresh white cabinetry and cool-toned concrete worktops, the utility is accessed through pocket doors at the front of the house. The space provides plenty of additional storage, an additional sink, a Liebherr fridge-freezer, plus a Samsung washing machine and tumble dryer. You’ll also find the WC which serves the first floor living area.

Terrace, Garden and Hot Tub

Lined by Cornish grasses and yuccas, the tiered terrace provides a peaceful sanctuary for wave-watching and afternoon drinks. Leading directly onto the grassy lawn, there’s plenty of room for little ones to play, while four-legged friends can soak up the rays from their sundrenched spot on the patio. The hot tub enjoys far-reaching views over Porthtowan’s shores and is perfectly positioned to catch the golden hour glow each evening.

Accessed via either a flight of steps from the first floor, or through the ground floor bedrooms, it's easy to reach the outdoor dining table with trays of icy drinks and sharing platters. There’s a charcoal barbeque too, meaning everyone can gather together for celebratory suppers, with sparking ocean views.

Outdoor Shower

Tucked away behind the back of the property is a heated waterfall shower. Return from sandy days on the beach and head straight here to rinse off salty hair, wetsuits and bodyboards.

Parking and EV charger

The driveway provides enough parking for four cars, and access to a solar-powered EV charger.
