As told by the Perfect Stays team

When the opportunity for a team weekend in one of our luxury holiday homes comes around, it's something we all jump at. We're a brand built on authentic experiences and we pride ourselves on first class customer service, so staying in the properties we represent enables us to make genuine recommndations that we know our guests will love.

This time, our Property Advisor, Guest Experience, Portfolio and Marketing teams headed west to Wharf House in Mousehole. New to our luxury collection in 2025, it made the perfect base for a magical team weekend. Read on for our insights and recommendations for holidaying here.

The open plan kitchen, living and dining area made for a relaxing afternoon of welcome drinks and nibbles with a very special view.

Arriving at Wharf House

Walk through the door at Wharf House, resist the urge to zip down the indoor slide as you head up to the first floor, and once you reach the living space, you're met with views that are nothing short of extraordinary. When we say this home is harbourfront, we really mean it: within a few footsteps, you can have your feet in the sand and Cornish air clearing your mind.

Thanks to the new A30, car journeys to West Cornwall have been much quicker since summer 2025, so locations like Mousehole, St Ives and Marazion don't seem quite so far for those travelling with young children.

Our team checked in on Saturday afternoon to a chilled glass of welcome fizz and a house tour. Tearing ourselves away from the window seat where we'd later spot seals playing in the harbour, we explored the first floor. With its two bedrooms at either end of the vast kitchen, living and dining area, it's cleverly laid out to bring groups together, either with canapes around the island or board games beside the fire.

Head up another level and you'll reach the mezzanine floor, home to a rope swing and a smart TV that promise a cosy chill-out spot for teenagers. Wharf House is full of history, and this room was once a daffodil store, hence its sunny yellow colour scheme. Step or slide down to the ground floor, and the final two bedrooms await. One is a double bunk room with a previous life as the "shark office", while the other is wallpapered from floor to ceiling, and home to an original piece of the transatlantic cable that was rerouted through the house during WWI.

There's also a TV room for cosy film nights, and a lookout that lives up to its name with frontline views over Mousehole Harbour. Cornish locals love a swim here, even in the cooler months, so a few of us found ourselves simply sitting to watch the world go by. Special thanks go to Sand & Sea for preparing the house and giving us a lovely warm welcome.

Outside space is a real rarity in Mousehole, and the owners of Wharf House have added spa-like touches to bring its suntrap courtyard garden to life. After long lunches around the concrete dining table, guests can enjoy evening dips in the heated outdoor baths, rejuvenate in the wood-clad barrel sauna, or brave the icy drench bucket for a touch of hot and cold therapy.

Out and about in Mousehole

Floorplans familiarised, it was soon time for our dinner reservation, so after a quick freshen up and a final clink of champagne flutes for good measure, we enjoyed the five-minute walk along the waterfront to 2 Fore Street, in the heart of the village. Mousehole is a vibrant hub for foodies at the best of times, but staying at Wharf House removed all worry of finding parking nearby or organising taxis - the location couldn't have been more perfect. The village is loved for its annual Mousehole Harbour Lights event, so we even had a sneak peek of some early decorations being hung from the harbour wall.

We've always loved 2 Fore Street - it's our go-to recommendation for when guests ask us where to eat in Mousehole. The nine of us sampled our way through the cocktail menu, from delicate gin spritzes to punchy espresso martinis, before ordering a starter and a main dish each. Our table was soon filled with delicious shell-roasted scallops, squash risotto with parmesan, and grilled lemon sole served with Newlyn crab, caught fresh from the next bay over.

The following morning, breakfast at Mousehole Deli & Kitchen was equally raved about. Over freshly blitzed smoothies, granola bowls and cooked breakfasts, we chatted about our evening nightcap at the Ship Inn, where we made new memories while retelling happy tales of Perfect Stays days gone by.

The plan for today was a four-mile walk into Newlyn and back, via the historic RNLI Penlee Lifeboat Station. There are plenty of breath-taking walks in and around Mousehole, but we opted for this one as the route was mostly flat, and doable in under two hours.

Tracking the coast as we ventured out of Mousehole Harbour, with its cafés, artisan coffee shops and homeware treasure troves, we made for the edge of the village. If you have time to spare, stop in at The Rockpool for crab sandwiches with a view, or at Orange Café Bar for plant-based dishes and a great calendar of events that range from Korean nights to wreath-making workshops.

We said "good morning" to the local dog walkers and couples who, like us, were enjoying being away from busy everyday life for the weekend. As we got closer towards Newlyn Harbour, we spotted some of our favourite restaurants like Argoe, whose fantastic selection of natural wines makes dining here well worth the visit. Set in the wonderfully diverse Mount's Bay, Newlyn itself is a historic harbour town and the largest fishing port in England. This becomes clear as you crest the hill and head down towards the Fisherman's Arms pub.

Seagulls circled us overhead as we walked, cawing into the morning sky, clearly hopeful for a seafood breakfast from the trawlers who were already on their journey back into port. We kept our loop pretty brisk and headed back to Wharf House to say our goodbyes, but keen foodies must try the crispy squid at Mackerel Sky and ice cream at nearby Jelbert's.

One simply can't leave Wharf House without one last whizz down the slide. And so, with bags packed and cars loaded, we did just that. The PS team ended our Sunday with a quiet moment spent just outside the house, taking in the final few waves.
