Ancient landmarks, pretty villages and stunning views

A true gem on the Cornish coast, Mousehole offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you prefer to embark on an invigorating hike along the rugged cliffs or a leisurely stroll through the cobbled streets, this picturesque village has something to satisfy everyone. Lace up your boots, breathe in the salty sea air and set off to explore this enchanting corner of the coast. Here are the five top walks around Mousehole.

1. Mousehole to Lamorna

Walk details: 4.8 miles | Moderate | View the route here

Starting at the north pier in Mousehole, this well-marked circular walk is perfect for those looking to see the sights. Follow the coast path through wooded reserves and clifftop routes as you feast your eyes on stunning views out towards St Michael's Mount and Tater Du Lighthouse. On sunny days, head to the sands and take a dip in the water at Lamorna Cove before returning to town.

If you're in need of refreshments, head to the Rock Pool café and induldge in a classic cream tea or if you're visiting in the evening, sit back with a glass of wine to watch the sun set on the horizon.

2. Mousehole to Paul

Sitting pretty on the hill, the lovely village of Paul is located just 15 minutes away and boasts the same quaint atmosphere as Mousehole. Stroll up and out of the back of the parish and let a string of colourful cottages lead you to your destination. Before emerging into the neighbouring village, stomp through a handful of fields and tall trees while the sea laps the shore behind you.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, stop in at The Kings Arms for freshly caught crab sandwiches and a pint of something local to quench your thirst. Refreshed and recharged, enjoy the downhill finish back to Mousehole.

3. Lamorna to St Loy

Only a 10 minute drive from Mousehole, start your journey in this popular village. Where ancient history and beautiful views blend for a memorable jaunt, set off from the Merry Maidens stone circle, a historic landmark above a shallow valley. Follow this adventurous route across granite cliffs as you pass through The Minack Chronicles Nature Reserve and the Tater Du Lighthouse before reaching into the wooded vale at St Loy.

If you're visiting in the spring, the coastal woodland is littered with wildflowers and sycamore trees. Once you have returned, stop off at Lamorna Cove café for a well-earned treat.

Take in views of the Cornish coastline on this circular trail. Offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, coastal charm, and cultural experiences continue along the well-marked coast path along the coastline out of Mousehole. On your journey, take a moment to appreciate the rugged beauty of this area from Penlee Point, a beautiful headland that offers stunning vistas of Mount’s Bay or stop off at the iconic Jubilee Pool for a refreshing dip during the summer months.

Once you reach Newlyn, take a stroll along the promenade to browse charming cafés and famous art galleries all before indulging in some fresh seafood at firm favourite Argoe. For more dining recommendations, take a look at our where to eat in Mousehole blog post ahead of your visit.

3.6 miles | Easy | View the route here

This one way walk is perfect for those looking to cover all bases. Follow this linear route for approximately three miles passing through Newlyn before reaching the market town of Penzance. Home to a great selection of restaurants, independent shops and Britain’s largest lido, take in views of St Michael’s Mount as you venture across this stretch of coast path. After perusing through town, you can either re-trace your steps back into Mousehole or catch the handy shuttle bus that runs every 20 minutes back to the village.

A jewel in Penzance’s seafront, The Jubilee Pool sits between the promenade and the harbour and is heated between May and October. Its art deco design and beachfront position give this open air lido an exotic feel where blissful summer days await. When you're ready for a break, take to the terrace café for coffee and cake above the water.
