The Yellow Cottage

Trebarwith Strand, CornwallSleeps: 9Bedrooms: 4Bathroooms: 5

Home > Our Properties > The Yellow Cottage
Beautifully furnished and with soul-stirring views over Trebarwith Strand, this charming character cottage is nestled against the Cornish headland.

Completely unique and with spectacular sea views, The Yellow Cottage is set in a truly magnificent location on the wild north coast of Cornwall. Traditional in design but modern in function, its beautiful New England style interiors exude character in abundance.

Set over two spacious floors, almost every room looks across the ocean. Nominated for a design award, the Stephen Graver kitchen is finished in powder blues and soft creams and features an Everhot range cooker. A collection of candy-striped armchairs and plump sofas gather around the cast iron wood burner in the sitting room, creating the cosiest of spaces once the sun sinks beneath the horizon. Whilst the high vaulted ceilings and direct access onto the terrace result in a bright and breezy feel on hot summer days, there’s also a separate TV room for those holiday movie nights.

Perfect for older family members or guests with limited mobility, the charming king size bedroom on the ground floor comes with its own en-suite. Upstairs, another king size room and en-suite sit beneath gently sloping eaves. A further two bedrooms on the first floor sleep five guests between them.

Surrounded by a large landscaped garden and a spacious south-facing terrace, The Yellow Cottage is wonderful on balmy summer days. And when the weather takes a turn, it’s the perfect spot for watching the storms roll in whilst the wood burner roars.

Surfers, swimmers and sunbathers will love the sweeping Trebarwith Strand Beach, whilst walkers will relish the proximity to the coast path.

Ideally located for exploring this rugged stretch of North Cornwall, Tintagel Castle and Boscastle are a short drive away and the foodie hub of Port Isaac is less than 20 minutes by car.

More about theGround Floor

Kitchen and Dining Room

Engineered oak wooden floors stretch throughout the Stephen Graver kitchen, whilst hand painted units sit beneath slate counters. Topped with quartz, the powder blue kitchen island is the perfect spot for a morning coffee and paper. It’s well-equipped with an Everhot range cooker, induction hob, Fhiaba fridge-freezer, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave and dishwasher. Fantastic for hearty breakfasts and celebratory meals, the elegant dining table sits centre stage.

Sitting Room

The welcoming sitting room is bright, airy, comforting and homely in equal measures. Soft candy-striped armchairs and tempting sofas gather around the cast iron wood burner, which emits a flickering glow on chilly evenings. And on summer days, the French doors open straight onto a sea-view terrace. There’s a small TV, DVD player and iPod dock tucked away for those moments when additional entertainment is required.

TV Room

A separate TV room comes with a large wall-mounted Sony flat screen TV, which is cleverly concealed behind a roll-down canvas. A Blu-ray player and Freesat will take care of the entertainment.

Bedroom One and En-suite

This beautiful ground floor bedroom comes with a luxurious wooden four-poster king size bed that looks out along the headland and down to Trebarwith Strand Beach. French doors open straight onto a decking area and there’s a charming en-suite with a walk-in thermostatic rainfall shower. Tucked away towards the rear of the house, this bedroom ensures a restful night’s sleep.

Utility Room and Cloakroom

With its own separate entrance, the utility room is equipped with an LG washing machine and tumble dryer, and there’s a convenient downstairs cloakroom with a rainfall shower just next door.

More about theFirst Floor

Bedroom Two and En-suite

Drenched in natural light through skylight windows, the king size bedroom sits beneath gently sloping eaves. The serene en-suite comes with a walk-in rainfall shower.

Bedroom Three

With two single cabin beds, this room is perfect for additional guests, teenagers and children. A traditional barn door opens onto a wooden staircase that leads up to a level viewing platform, providing breathtaking views across Trebarwith Strand and the headland beyond. A small path leads further up the headland to another level area that would make a lovely private picnic spot. The family bathroom is just next door to bedroom three.

Bedroom Four and En-suite

A generously sized room with three single beds, the en-suite comes with a WC and basin. The family bathroom is just across the hall.

Family Bathroom

This is the place to indulge and pamper, taking a long soak in the deep bathtub after active days exploring the coastline. A thermostatic shower with rainfall head is fixed over the bath and a charming blue vanity unit houses the inset basin.

Mezzanine

An extra bed can be made up on the large landing area to accommodate an additional child, if needed.

Trebarwith Strand

Beaches and watersports

The beautiful tidal beach of Trebarwith Strand is great for surfing or bodyboarding, although the waves are a bit peaky for beginners, so we’d recommend lessons with Trebarwith Surf School. During high tide, head to the nearby Polzeath Beach, Daymer Bay or Rock Beach, which are all family friendly and have a wide range of watersports on offer. Summerleaze Beach in Bude is also about 35 minutes away by car. There’s also nothing quite like kayaking or paddle boarding around Port Quinn, Port Isaac and Port Gaverne.

Outdoor pursuits

The South West Coast Path runs through Trebarwith Strand and leads to Tintagel in the north and Port Isaac in the south. Hire bikes in Wadebridge and join the scenic Camel Trail to the foodie hub of Padstow – with a range of baby buggy attachments and tandems, the whole family can join in. Stop off in Padstow for a quaint walk along the harbour, where you can soak up the views and enjoy a Cornish pasty or crab sandwich. Golfers are spoilt for choice with Bowood, St Enodoc and Bude Golf Clubs all within a 35 minute drive.

Food and drink

Just over the road is The Port William pub, which serves hearty food and great local ales with a view. The Mill House Inn is another good option nearby and takes just ten minutes to reach on foot. For incredible produce and tasty breakfasts and lunches, head to the Boscastle Farm Shop. Port Isaac is home to the Michelin-starred Outlaw's New Road, along with Chapel Café and Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen. There are also some laid back beachy options in Polzeath, including Surfside and TJ’s Surf Café.

Activities for children

There are plenty of alternatives to family beach days nearby including the Camel Creek Adventure Park and Dairyland Farm World, perfect for letting the little ones burn off some steam in the indoor play area. For history enthusiasts, we’d recommend a fun and educational day trip to the mythical Tintagel Castle, which is less than ten minutes away by car. The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic nearby in Boscastle is a quirky option if you have an hour or two of downtime on a rainy day, promising a unique day out for the whole family.

Time for pampering

Just above Polzeath is the rustic-luxe Cowshed Spa at the St Moritz Hotel. The ultimate space to relax and unwind, opt for a quick beauty fix or an indulgent full or half day package. Whatever you desire, you'll be sure to leave feeling relaxed and refreshed after a well deserved moment of pampering. The St Enodoc Spa in Rock is a great alternative option for a holiday treat, with a range of restorative treatments on offer. From specialist massages to relaxing manicures and pedicures, there's something for everyone.

We had a wonderful week in The Yellow Cottage, it couldn't have been more perfect. It was such a treat to walk down the garden path and be strides away from the sands of Trebarwith Strand. Timed right, the beach offered such a beautiful long stretch to take our daily beach walk, other times the coastal path through the garden gate took us straight up onto the cliff tops.

Our whole group kept finding more things in the house each day that was loved! Such a well appointed house, everything has been thought of. We are a group of eight adults who stay in a large coastal house every year and this is one of the best, we can highly recommend it. This place definitely had the wow factor for us!

The Edwards Party, Cumbria - October 2015

The Yellow Cottage is a very special place. The warmth and decor of the house and its magnificent location are hard to top. The memories of a visit there will stay with us always. The hike up the coast path to Tintagel Castle is both beautiful and fascinating. The castle, its beach and caves, are otherworldly, and make you believe in the Arthurian legends. There is still much we want to explore in Cornwall, but know we'll be doing it from this house. Thanks for the outstanding management and professionalism Perfect Stays!

The Dugan Family, Buckinghamshire - March 2016

Fantastic in summer, despite some very wet weather - the house is something special, as is Trebarwith Strand. The combination with Port William thrown in is unbeatable. Hope to come back again soon.

The Joyce Family, Chester - August 2016

I celebrated my 40th here and came back for my 50th - a lot has changed but it's still fabulous, like most of the friends that joined me! Here's to returning on my 60th!

The Dholakia Party, Sheffield - November 2016

Wonderful property - had an awesome family Christmas here! Views are spectacular - for anyone visiting, we recommend you take a trip to Daymer Bay via Rock!

The Pennick Family, Norfolk - December 2016

We all had an amazing time at The Yellow Cottage. Thank you for helping us to create even more beautiful memories in this place.

The Jones Family, Melton Mowbray - January 2017

Because of Covid I had to transfer my 70th birthday celebrations with the family to January next year. Lindsay was fantastic, she was calm, empathic but very professional. She kept me informed of all the steps that were taking place. I would like to thank Lindsay and the owners for their understanding. I cannot praise Perfect Stays enough for setting my mind at rest and sorting out a very stressful situation.
