From mesmerising lantern displays to traditional Christmas switch-ons and bustling festive markets, Cornwall has plenty of dazzling events lined up for you to enjoy in the run-up to Christmas. We’ve rounded up our six festive favourites:
Now in its 61st year, the Mousehole Harbour Lights switch-on promises to fill Mousehole’s streets with colour, sparkle and plenty of Cornish tradition. With a date to be confirmed, the festival will feature an open-air Carolaire service at the North Quay, where the Mousehole Male Voice Choir will sing long into the night. Beautiful floating light displays bobbing on the water pay homage to a handful of Cornish legends, including the Mousehole Cat and the fisherman’s favourite – stargazey pie. The glittering Christmas switch-on is from 6:30pm, celebrating the run-up to the big day with a grand countdown, after which the lights will be lit every evening until January. Just a short walk from the enchanting Christmas switch-on and occupying an exclusive position above the charming Mousehole harbour, Porth Enys House is a tranquil spot to host cosy winter getaways and watch the world sail by.
On November 29th, this popular seaside town will be transformed into a winter wonderland. With live music, entertainment, and everybody's favourite winter warmers, it's the perfect evening to get in the Christmas spirit. Those looking to be at the heart of the event can gather outside the Newquay Town Council offices on Marcus Hill before strolling across town to the harbourfront for the best views of the fireworks.
Less than a 15-minute drive from Newquay sits a beautifully designed holiday home with glistening sea views across Mawgan Porth. Prennek House is bright, spacious and unique, making it the perfect base for the whole family this Christmas.
This winter in Porthleven, mark the beginning of the festive season in this charming coastal village. With twinkling fairy lights adorning the quaint shops and bustling streets, the event typically features a variety of festive activities, including live music, carol singing and performances by local schools and choirs. In addition to the lighting ceremony, there will also be a chance for little ones to meet Father Christmas. If you're looking to do some Christmas shopping on your visit, head to the Shipyard Market and browse a selection of stalls showcasing a range of Cornish sellers for a one-of-a-kind gift.
Savour a week of unforgettable memories this Christmas at Salt Spray. Located just above the water's edge in Porthleven and a short walk from the harbourside restaurants, gather the family and embrace life on Cornwall's west coast.
For a truly festive weekend, Truro Christmas Lights is returning for another year and bringing with it great music, fabulous Christmas markets and a bustling seasonal atmosphere. From Friday 22nd November, the event kicks off in Boscawen Street, where visitors can enjoy special entertainment on the stage from 5pm before the main event.
As well as the lights switch-on, the Truro Christmas Market starts on Lemon Quay. Open from 9am until 9pm on Festive Friday, the streets will be lined with local food, drink, arts and crafts from traders across Cornwall in festive wooden cabins.
On Thursday 28th November, watch Falmouth's streets come alive. The evening will commence with a performance by Sing Choir, followed by a parade led by Kernow Pipes and Drums as it makes its way through the town. Feast on churros and your favourite winter warmers, before heading into the centre for the grand switch-on at 7pm. As well as performances by local schools, Rock Choir will be rounding off the evening to get everyone singing along to some Christmas classics.
An impressive spectacle for adults and children alike, an immersive trail of big, bold and beautiful lanterns will guide the way from one eye-catching display to the next in Looe this November. Departing from the Millpool into East Looe and along Fore Street, the parade will end at the seafront where an evening of community carols and fireworks await. If you're interested in participating, workshops hosted by Looe Town Council will take place on Saturday 9th November and Saturday 16th November where you can make your lantern ahead of the festivities.
