There’s nothing quite like escaping to the seaside, where your only commute is from the front door to the sand. Whether it’s waking to the sound of waves, watching sunsets from the terrace or spontaneous beach games whenever the mood strikes, a beachfront holiday is the ultimate luxury.
With that in mind, we’ve handpicked 10 exceptional holiday homes in Devon and Cornwall that place you right by the water’s edge.
Overlooking golden sands and gently lapping tides, Tamarisks is one of our largest homes, sleeping up to sixteen guests across two floors and a self-contained annexe. Nestled amongst the chocolate box village of Hope Cove, it’s a home perfectly suited to multi-generational stays where families are free to roam the beach before lunch is served on the two-tier terrace.
The South West Coast Path winds past the front door, so days can be spent exploring the neighbouring coves of South Milton Sands and Bigbury-on-Sea before stopping at the Hope & Anchor for a pub supper. Alternatively, the pizza oven and sea-view dining table make a wonderful setting for al fresco dining in the summer – where everyone exchanges tales of their sea swims and rockpool treasures.
Treasure House sits near the edge of Polzeath Beach, capturing the essence of seaside living beautifully. The interiors are an ode to its beachy setting with light and airy colourscapes and driftwood furnishings.
Known for its incredible surfing scene, beautiful coastal walks and popular restaurants, Polzeath itself is one of the most sought-after destinations on the north coast. There’s no need to use your car for the week and dogs can be walked on the beach and onto the coast path with ease.
To truly make the most of your time here, our Concierge team would recommend booking a family surf lesson with George’s Surf School, visiting Sauna’s by the Sea for a dose of heat therapy and sharing stonebaked pizzas at The Atlantic.
As the day winds down, Polzeath’s spectacular sunsets are not to be missed. After the sky fades to dusky pinks and golds, retreat to Treasure House, where a crackling wood burner, open-plan living spaces and four sumptuous bedrooms await.
With Bigbury Beach on its doorstep, this beautiful home has been aptly named for its sea views and sought-after location. Sitting over one level, it makes it ideal for families and groups with dogs warmly welcomed too. After breakfast, spend hours soaking up the sunshine on the beach or take the famous sea tractor over to Burgh Island for a cream tea – a must-do while in the area.
There are opportunities to surf at Bigbury-on-Sea when the conditions are right but paddleboarding and kayaking are also very popular with hire available from Discovery. There’s also plenty to explore on foot with the coastal path weaving past the smaller coves of Challaborough, Ayrmer and Wyscombe.
Once back at Beachfront, stoke the barbeque and head onto the terrace with fresh salads, icy spritzers and the crash of the waves just beyond.
Seastar sits a stone's throw away from Porthcothan's Beach, becoming the dream destination for sandy adventures. Well-suited to families holidaying with children – and those young at heart - there’s a games room and cosy TV room for when the sun goes down, as well as a steam room and hot tub for switching off before bedtime.
Cricket and rounder bats await by the front door with the great expanse of soft sand providing a perfect spot for competitions. Porthcothan’s beach transforms with the tides, so low tide is great for walks, barbeques and uncovering the hidden tidal pool, while high tide provides easy access for keen surfers and bodyboarders.
The sea views can be savoured back at Seastar too with the master bedroom, living and dining area’s windows providing a perfect lookout.
Impressive in stature and style, this is the ultimate beach house for large gatherings and celebrations. Awake to the sound of the ocean before joining everyone upstairs for freshly brewed coffees overlooking golden sands. Having taken inspiration from South African architecture, Noordhoek’s design is something to behold. Find a self-contained annexe and yoga studio, a large games room, a pétanque court and a fire pit, all before stepping out of the front door and onto the reed-lined path leading to the beach.
Keen surfers themselves, the owners have ensured that those holidaying with boards and wetsuits are well looked after with a large wet room, dual showers, dunk tanks and drying racks easily accessible through a side door. Once in and showered, it's tradition to gather everyone together for a Braii-style barbeque, with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen and bar at the ready.
Retire to the fire pit to toast marshmallows after supper or wander back down to the shoreline, where the sunset promises a memorable end to your day.
For those who love to watch the sea rise and fall from the comfort of your holiday home, Salt Spray is up there with some of the best views on our portfolio. In what was once a pair of fishing cottages on the edge of Porthleven Beach, is now an incredible eco-build complete with an outdoor shower, fire pit and sea-view balcony.
Sleeping up to eight guests and enjoying direct access onto the South West Coast Path, this home is ideal for those wishing to immerse themselves in the joys of West Cornwall.
With buckets and spades at the ready, find the beach within a minute’s walk or wander onto the harbourfront where an array of seafood bars and traditional pubs promise a warm welcome, no matter the time of year.
You can surf on Porthleven Beach and it's also great for children dipping their toes in the shallows. Coastal walks can be enjoyed over to Praa Sands and Prussia Cove with views stretching as far as St Michael’s Mount on the neighbouring coast.
Ferryside is a standout home in the heart of Rock, celebrated for its breath-taking estuary views and exquisite interiors. Begin your mornings watching yachts glide by as you draw the curtains, then step out onto the sun-drenched terrace to embrace the day.
Dogs can be walked year-round on Rock Beach which you can walk to within a minute, while the coast path over to Daymer and Polzeath promises a longer route for energetic pups (and owners). Rock itself is renowned for its excellent eateries and waterfront pubs, but you can also board the water taxi over to Padstow where the likes of Stein’s and Ainsworth’s promise to satisfy your cravings.
Whether you’re a keen yachtsperson or simply wish to head out onto the water in a self-drive boat, a stay at Ferryside places any beach lover and watersports fan in the heart of it all. On return home, you’ll find a dedicated wet room with dual showers, dunk tanks and wetsuit drying racks.
As evening falls, head to the terrace for an al fresco meal at sunset. Then, slide back the decking to reveal a hidden, sunken vitality pool – where the sound of the boats returning to shore and a canopy of stars overhead invite you to truly switch off.
Heavenly in location and design, Compass Point is a sea-view retreat on the edge of West Cornwall. With views stretching across Coverack’s sandy beach and endless ocean, it’s a destination home for those in the know.
There’s plenty to see and do in Coverack and it's best known for its quintessential village feel – with bobbing boats and pastel-coloured cottages lining the harbourfront. You’ll find an enchanting sculpture park as you climb the coastal path out of Coverack while the beach itself offers opportunities for swimming, sunbathing and windsurfing.
But there’s really no need to go far while staying at Compass Point – a beach day is best rounded off with fish and chips on the harbourwall, before finding solace in the sunken hot tub of the sea-view garden.
One of our longest standing properties, Sea House is loved for its beachside setting and direct access onto the coast path from the front garden. With Porth Beach providing the best backdrop, it's easy to while away the hours at Sea House watching the sand begin to fill with parasols, boards and surfers.
There’s an indoor pool but the waves of Porth Beach will tempt any surfer and bodyboarder year-round. With it being so close to the beach, it's easy to go a week without getting in the car and there are pubs, cafés and restaurants on your doorstep too. The centre of Newquay is also in walking distance, meaning you can spend a week beach hopping between Porth, Tolcarne and Fistral.
Having opened up bookings to four-legged friends this year, a stay at Sea House is great for ticking off some more of the South West Coast Path. We recommend heading north, where dogs are welcomed all year round on Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth Beach.
Fox Point sits opposite Harlyn Bay Beach - a mere minute's walk away from the sand - making it perfect for those early morning dog walks and sunrise surfs. Bookable alongside Poldhu, the modern apartment is light and contemporary with two balconies for soaking up the sunshine. There’s parking, an outdoor shower plus plenty of storage for surf and bodyboards.
Once on the beach, there’s everything to keep the whole family entertained – including board and wetsuit hire, a sauna, bar and family-run foodie pop-up; Big Pan Parties.
As Harlyn Bay is situated amidst the coveted Seven Bays area of North Cornwall, it means that you can find the neighbouring beaches of Trevone, Mother Ivey’s and Constantine within a two-mile walk in either direction. It’s also where you’ll find The Pig – one of our favourite Concierge recommendations. Allow us to book you a table and you can enjoy a romantic meal after days spent on your favourite beach.
The above beaches welcome guide dogs year-round and beach wheelchairs can be hired from Polzeath, Mawgan Porth, Towan, Fistral and Bigbury-on-Sea. Adapted surf lessons can be arranged via our Concierge Team with Coastal Crusaders on hand to provide seating surfing and ocean confidence coaching.
