Our guide to vegan and vegetarian dining in CornwallPosted by Perfect Stays on Updated on
Comfort food, cream teas and the perfect buddha bowl
As it’s World Vegan Month, we thought it was the prime opportunity to recommend six of our favourite vegan and vegetarian-friendly cafés and restaurants in Cornwall. Whether you’re a dedicated vegan, you love vegetarian food, or you’re simply looking for a healthy option during your next Cornwall holiday, there’s a venue and dish for all tastes.
The Cornish Vegan, Truro
Environment and health conscious, the owners of The Cornish Vegan offer delicious food to vegans and non-vegans alike, supporting local suppliers and produce in the process. Perfect for lunch, delight in The Cornish Vegan’s twist on cream tea, fish and chips and an ever so tempting slice of locally homemade cake sourced from Little Green Vegan Bakery, based in St Agnes.
Tucked away in the buzzing town of Newquay is a surprising little café offering a solely vegan menu. Sprout offers warming home comforts such as dahl, curry and stew or stop by for something sweet and try their banoffee pie or snickers cheesecake. Doubling up as a zero-waste health food shop, fill up your pantry with vegan treats before heading home.
In the summer months, head round the corner to Freddo’s, a vibrant ice cream parlour offering a completely veggie and vegan takeaway menu – perfect for picnics on the beach or indulging in a sweet treat in the sunshine.
Scarlet, Mawgan Porth

Fresh ingredients, flickering candlelight and the glow of the north coast sunset are sure to make your dining experience at the Scarlet a luxurious one. With their very own vegan taster menu, each dish is bursting with aromatic ingredients, sweet treats and tailored wine pairings. Accompanied by ocean views, it’s the perfect blend for a memorable dinner.
Embers Pizza, Padstow
Adventurous days exploring the north coast call for a warm and crispy woodfired pizza. With vegan-friendly cheeses and bases, Embers Pizza is a great spot for grabbing a well-deserved slice or two of the finest pizza in Padstow. Even better, they have a vegan approved range of sorbets and ice creams – the perfect final indulgence and palette cleanser.
Olive Tree, Bude
Quiet days beside Bude’s canal are now even more appealing with Olive Tree’s restaurant and open conservatory. Buddha bowls bursting with flavour and speciality burgers await, with an entire vegetarian and vegan menu to cater for either diet. A bank of local suppliers, including Canara Farm and Westcountry Fruit add the finishing touch to making this a real Cornish treat.
The Bean Inn, St Ives
Entirely vegetarian with the option to adapt each dish to vegan diets, The Bean Inn offers a unique, fresh and delectable candlelit dinner. Packed with flavour, the menu is constantly shifting to welcome new inventions and classic favourites. Based in the arty hub of St Ives, the restaurant pays homage to its roots with pop art and paintings interweaved into the framework. With a vegan approved list of wines and beers, sit comfortably in the knowledge that your feast is entirely cruelty free.
