Experts in creating spaces that flow fluidly into each other, with bespoke interiors and intricate details, Rundell Associates work closely with their clients throughout the design process. Although a London-based company, their coastal projects include two striking properties in our portfolio, Red Cove and Ferryside, both of which blend beautifully into the coastal landscape.

Elevated above Mawgan Porth Beach and impressive in size, Red Cove has a wooden structure, clad with local stone, charred timber and slate, complete with spa facilities. Ferryside is a modern, eastuary-view home, clad in Trebarwith slate, with exposed beams creating space and depth. In both designs, the statement windows reflect the wide open space beyond, taking advantage of the abundance of Cornish light.

The Nook in St Minver, near Rock

Specialising in contemporary architecture across Cornwall, Angus Webster Architects consider place, people and the planet in their projects. Their designs are deeply rooted in nature, and built from honest materials, with textures blending harmoniously to create satisfying aesthetics and ergonomics.

The Nook is a Scandi-style retreat for two, surrounded by nature and rolling hills. With bespoke interiors, ambient lighting and a sunken hot tub, the design is both stylish and practical. Angus Webster commented:

“The design for The Nook was rooted in its Cornish setting, combining honest materials, careful craftsmanship and a quiet contemporary language. Working with a small existing structure, we focused on warmth, texture and proportion, alongside a strong relationship to the garden. Subtle detailing and privacy were essential in creating a refined coastal retreat.”

CFD Architects

Noordhoek in Porthcothan (left) and Pentyak in Harlyn Bay (right)

CFD Architects, based in Saltash in South East Cornwall, centre their designs around exciting views, well-handled proportions and contrast of light and shade. Noordhoek, a magnificent five bedroom home with a large yoga studio annexe is a unique construction project, brought to life by CFD Architects.

This exceptional home features impressive sustainable credentials, including a borehole and solar panels. Paul Melling of CFD Architects described the project:

"Noordhoek uses traditional materials in a contemporary way, with sleek details that are carefully considered. The stone walling used on the exterior façade is brought through internally, providing a cohesive aesthetic. Building in the valley brought some challenges for the foundation design, but the stream running through the site enabled us to design a mixture of outdoor spaces, with careful planting choices providing seclusion."

Set in a commanding position overlooking Harlyn Bay, Pentyak, is a fascinating build with statement, angled windows, that create an abundance of light and space.

The architects described the project as a two-phase renovation:

"The initial phase was completed in 2014 and involved a complete refurbishment and extension up into the roof space, expanding it from a three bedroom home to five. A second phase was completed in 2023, converting an outbuilding into a delightful yoga annexe. Throughout the house and annexe, high quality materials, finishes and fixtures have been chosen carefully, including the herringbone slate surrounding the captivating wood burning stove."
