Noordhoek in Porthcothan (left) and Pentyak in Harlyn Bay (right)
CFD Architects, based in Saltash in South East Cornwall, centre their designs around exciting views, well-handled proportions and contrast of light and shade. Noordhoek, a magnificent five bedroom home with a large yoga studio annexe is a unique construction project, brought to life by CFD Architects.
This exceptional home features impressive sustainable credentials, including a borehole and solar panels. Paul Melling of CFD Architects described the project:
"Noordhoek uses traditional materials in a contemporary way, with sleek details that are carefully considered. The stone walling used on the exterior façade is brought through internally, providing a cohesive aesthetic. Building in the valley brought some challenges for the foundation design, but the stream running through the site enabled us to design a mixture of outdoor spaces, with careful planting choices providing seclusion."
Set in a commanding position overlooking Harlyn Bay, Pentyak, is a fascinating build with statement, angled windows, that create an abundance of light and space.
The architects described the project as a two-phase renovation:
"The initial phase was completed in 2014 and involved a complete refurbishment and extension up into the roof space, expanding it from a three bedroom home to five. A second phase was completed in 2023, converting an outbuilding into a delightful yoga annexe. Throughout the house and annexe, high quality materials, finishes and fixtures have been chosen carefully, including the herringbone slate surrounding the captivating wood burning stove."
