Beaches and watersports
Crantock Beach is famed for its fine sand, rolling dunes and crystal clear blue waters, just off the Gannel Estuary. Wander through the wildflowers towards the secluded Polly Joke Beach or head to Fistral to drink and dine at the restaurants and bars lining the sand. You can also cross the estuary on the Fern Pit Ferry at high tide between May and September. Watersports enthusiasts will love the nearby Lusty Glaze, with jet ski hire and SUP available.

Food and drink
A traditional Cornish village, Crantock has two great pubs: the 400-year-old thatched Albion and The Cornishman. A picturesque walk at low tide brings you to the popular Lewinnick Lodge near Pentire Head – a lovely setting for sunset cocktails. For extra special dining, The Scarlet in Mawgan Porth is an excellent option. Keen wine drinkers will love sampling the county’s finest fizz with Cornish Wine Tours, while the Camel Valley and Trevibban Mill vineyards provide idyllic backdrops for a glass or two.

Outdoor pursuits
Set off along the South West Coast Path and explore the circular Gannel route, head towards Penpol Creek or venture a little further afield towards Holywell Bay. Hire bikes and pedal your way into Padstow along the picturesque Camel Trail, or perfect your swing at the Championship Golf and Country Club at Trevose. With its rich fishing heritage, Cornwall has plenty of fantastic boat trips and charters to try – from mackerel fishing with the kids to more adventurous voyages catching cod and conger eels.

Activities for children
Nearby Newquay is home to an abundance of child friendly activities. If the sun is shining, St Eval Kart Circuit will see competitive spirits soar, while the Lappa Valley Steam Railway and Lusty Glaze Adventure Centre are perfect for younger explorers. On rainy days, head to the Blue Reef Aquarium for an educational afternoon, with opportunity to watch feeding times. Or, the thrill seekers can tackle obstacle courses and foam pits at Newquay Trampoline Park.

Time for pampering
A real treat for body, mind and soul, Crantock Bay Spa is a restorative haven overlooking the Cornish coastline. Slip into the indoor heated pool before enjoying a holistic treatment from one of the spa’s experienced staff, indulge in a full day experience or stop by for a morning massage. Alternatively, Fistral Spa on the north coast offers a relaxing place of peace and well-being, combining top to toe treatments with a chilled out beach vibe.

Festivals and events
Taking over Fistral Beach every summer, Boardmasters Festival promises a wonderful weekend of live music and surfing competitions. From silent discos to wellbeing workshops, there’s plenty for all ages to enjoy. One of Cornwall’s more unique traditions, the Crantock Bale Push takes places on the second Friday of September, attracting large crowds as a team of four push a hay bale around the village’s streets. Serving up food, live music and entertainment, it’s an event not to be missed for locals and visitors alike.
