Located on the incredible and expansive Whitehay Estate, The Watermill is perfect for a secluded romantic retreat or quiet getaway.

Built in the early 1800s, The Watermill retains all of its original charm and character, with a fully operating water wheel set in the quietly trickling stream that surrounds this luxury cottage. Wide, green expanses of lawn and farmland surround the property on the private Whitehay Estate, with nearby tennis courts, croquet lawn, wild orchards, bee hives and a pond; endless woodland trails and valleys to wander through and pass the long summer days away.

Perfectly situated within the picturesque Ruthern Valley of Withiel, The Watermill is the ideal holiday home of choice for those looking to escape from the fast pace of everyday life and take a moment to recharge.

Peace, quiet and tranquillity are in abundance, whilst still only being approximately a 30 minute drive to the popular North coast beaches of Polzeath, Harlyn, Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay.

Stout stone walls with deeply inset windows make even the large open spaces of the kitchen and living room feel incredibly cosy and warm – perfect for a winter vacation in the country – whilst the French doors of the living room allow the summer to pour in from the surrounding farmland and spacious decking.

A newly fitted, handmade kitchen and dining area injects fresh contemporary style into this traditional cottage, whilst still retaining its original features of exposed wooden beams and large open fire places, perfectly complimenting the high wood beamed ceiling of the open plan living area upstairs.

Kitchen/Dining Room

Culinary enthusiasts will adore the brand new, custom built kitchen; handmade with shot in frames, soft closing cabinets and beautiful neutral corian kitchen work surfaces. Grey slate flagstone flooring finds the perfect balance with the silky whites of the kitchen units, white painted wooden beam ceilings and white Roberts DAB Digital Radio. The kitchen itself is incredibly well equipped with Siemens induction hob and Siemens oven; Siemens fully integrated washing machine and dryer, dishwasher and Liebherr refrigerator and freezer.

A fantastic contrast to the contemporary kitchen is the striking original Cornish range that sits proudly before the large oval dining table, seating six.

A freshly drilled borehole taps into natural water supplies and provides some of the purest water straight to The Watermill; rich in minerals and free of chemicals such as fluoride and chlorine.

Please note: guests with pacemakers should avoid using the Induction Hob as this can interfere with the device.

Master Bedroom

This cosy traditional cottage bedroom sits on the quiet ground floor. An excellently sized bedroom with a solid wood double wardrobe and beautiful dressing table. This room is a super king zip and link, offering the option of being a twin room.

Family Bathroom

After a long day of walking the grounds, you’ll relish slipping into the Carronite bath tub to enjoy a hot bubble bath, or freshen up in the large walk-in shower. Living Room

A solid pine staircase with integrated stair gate leads up to an excellent open living room. It’s within this well-utilised space that guests will really get a feel for the traditional aspects of this beautiful house. High vaulted ceilings, painted a warm, comforting red, with original exposed beams really open this space up.  From these beams hang two large elegantly distressed finish ceiling lights.

Two deep and welcoming sofas are positioned in front of the enormous original stone inglenook fireplace with granite stone mantle, in which is set a traditional Woodwarm cast iron stove.

The Watermill is wonderful property all year round. In the winter months, imagine shutting the world out, lighting the wood fire and curling up to watch a DVD on the wall mounted Panasonic flat screen television, complete with Panasonic Superdrive stereo, DVD and video player.

Alternatively, hook your iPod or iPhone up to the B&W docking system and set the ambience. In the balmy summer months, throw open the French doors and step out on to the raised decking where you can enjoy a barbecue and a glass of wine as the sun goes down.

Bedroom Two

This second bedroom is an excellent size, and extremely similar to the master bedroom. This room features two 3ft zip and link beds that can remain as a twin room or be made up as Super king size. Silk and feather duvet and feather pillows will ensure that all guests have a restful night’s sleep. Wake up in the morning and open the electric Velux blind to the skylight window above and let the morning sun shine in.

The Peters family, Essex

Beautiful cottage, the owners were wonderful hosts and made us very welcome. A lovely sunny week with no rain, just great.

David and Valerie, Cheshire

We loved our first stay in Cornwall a lot. What a great place. The lovely cosy cottage, the large grassy areas, the sheep, the calming noise of the watermill, nice beaches and small towns nearby. The kids loved it.

The Bossema Family, Surrey

Brilliant place, not too far away from anything. We took up the recommendation of The Cornish Arms which was well worth it. Very helpful, would certainly come back again.

Oliver and Rachel, Lake District

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. The owners welcomed us so well and we’ve loved every second in this beautiful setting. Certainly recommend a visit to Lanhydrock House too. Hope to come back again soon.

The Huss Family, London

Wonderful home to wind down in. Loved everything about The Watermill and certainly hope to come back again. We had some great food thanks to Rick (Stein) and Nathan (Outlaw). The Royal Cornwall Show was an unexpected bonus.

The Bruce Family, Suffolk

A most enjoyable stay in a delightful part of Cornwall.

The Watson Family, Australia

A stunning location to unwind and relax in the Cornish countryside. A short drive to the beach and some great eating too. St Tudy Inn our favourite.

The Williams Family, Kent

The Stoneham-Knott Family, Surrey

A luxurious place to stay set in beautifully kept grounds, a stunning view from every window. A great location central to many beautiful beaches and fabulous shopping possibilities. We are taking great memories of our first visit to Cornwall home with us.

The Quenby Family, Cheshire

We have had an amazing time in Cornwall and coming back to The Watermill each day has been the icing on the cake. A beautiful place to stay, we will definitely be back.

The Smee Family, Stourbridge

We’ve had a marvellous time at The Watermill, thank you for making us feel so comfortable and welcome. The girls cant wait to come back.

The White Family, London

We stayed here at the beginning of September 2016, 1 day after the owners moved into the main house. Despite this, the owners were extremely welcoming and did all they could to make our stay memorable with advice on beaches, restaurants and places to visit – all of which were good.

The watermill itself has been very well furnished and equipped, lack of broadband was a temporary glitch, BT don’t always perform at their best or adequate even when instructed. It was very comfortable and spacious with the bathroom and shower a real pleasure after a day on the beach and in the sun.

The Watermill is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and being in a valley the roads in or out are interesting; we met combines, horse, tractors as well as cars and lorries. I think the roads redefined single track and made sure one takes great care.

All in all the best holiday we have had in Cornwall and great help from Perfect Stays to ensure all the details were covered.

Mr & Mrs Hytch, Cheshire

What a fabulous five days we’ve had relaxing, unwinding and touring around. The Watermill is idyllic and such a beautiful setting. Our 18 month old has fully enjoyed the sheep, dogs and tractors; not sure how we are going to cope when we get back to London. Many thanks for the fresh produce and kindness from all at Whitehay. We hope to be back soon.

The Warbiton & Watson Family, London

Our best UK holiday! Great cottage in great grounds, thank you!

The Oliver Family, Surrey

What a wonderful week we’ve had exploring Cornwall from this beautiful, gorgeous watermill! Lovely property and heaps of wild garlic for lunch. We swam, surfed and explored Padstow, St Ives, Crackington, The Eden Project, Mousehole, Charlestown & had a fantastic week – thank you for making us so welcome. We’ll be back!
